J.R. Briggs Newsletter February 12th, 2020

If This, Then That
Thank you Ms. Dabney for the 'Voice Photos"

We are again faced with the possibility of inclement weather coming our way tomorrow, so we felt the need to layout possible schedule changes.

2-Hour Delay- If there is a delay on 2/13, then students will stay in school until the regular full-day time (2:50 PM). Conferences will be rescheduled (for the same times) for 2/27 (Thursday), which will now become a half-day.

No School- If we have a school cancellation on 2/13, then 2/27 will become a half-day and conferences will be rescheduled (for the same times) during that day and evening.

Additionally, if there is a change for Thursday, February 13th, then the spelling bee (for 4th and 5th-grade students) will take place Friday morning. More information will be available on Thursday regarding the time of the spelling bee.

These recent snow days have clearly caused confusion and delay, but we thank you all for your understanding and patience.

Valentine Reminder

As your teachers send home information about Valentine's Day, please remember that we are currently not able to hand out food (including candy) to other students. Feel free to find pencils and erasers, but those delicious red heart-shaped lollipops (and all other foods) can't be distributed at school.

Student Council
STEAM Night Round 2

What is STEAM Night?

STEAM Night is a community event inviting students and their families to Briggs for a night of creative problem solving and hands-on making. There will be a variety of activities to participate in based around Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM).

When is it?

Thursday, March 12th from 6:00 - 7:30.

What age are the activities geared towards?

The activities can be done by all age levels and we encourage Kindergarten through 5th grade to come. For younger students, they may need assistance from an adult or older sibling, but they would still be able to participate fully.

Do I have to stay the whole ninety minutes?

Nope! You can come in and try the activities you are interested in and leave or stick around the whole time and try out all the different activities. If you find one activity particularly interests you, feel free to stay at that the whole 90 minutes!

Do I need to be here with a parent?

Yes! This is a family event and we want parents to get involved as well. You can build alongside your child or help them with the activity but it is a great opportunity to get involved in their learning and have fun along the way.

If you are interested in attending, please fill out the Google Form (linked below) to help give us an idea of numbers. If you have any questions, contact Mr. Bell at abell@awrsd.org. Thanks!

The Book Fair Is Back

Please don’t forget that we need your 5th graders' baby picture for the yearbook!

You can post at anytime by going to https://www.jrb-pta.org/yearbook to create or access your account then navigate to – Shared photos folder – 5th Grade Who is that Baby Folder. Do remember to tag your 5th grader to their photo but do not put their name in the caption, we don’t want to give anyone away.

Yearbook committee volunteers are needed!

If you are interested in participating, please reach out to Tiffani Sell at xsell515@gmail.com. We may have 1 quick meeting to center on this, however, all work that is needed can be done at home; the only requirement is a computer.
