Honoring the Legacy of Bill Fox CREATING THE BILL FOX SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT

REMEMBERING BILL

Bill Fox 79G was an extraordinary man whose profound compassion and generosity had a transformative effect on his students, colleagues, and friends. His legacy lives on in the lives of the countless people, like you, that he influenced as an administrator, mentor and friend. To ensure that his legacy lives on through Emory College students today, we are creating a scholarship in his memory. Our goal is to raise $3 million in support from those who loved Bill and who believe in the importance of access to an Emory education.

Bill was wholly devoted to the people and institutions of Emory University. You sensed in him someone who genuinely cared about your well-being and was invested in your personal and professional life. For many students and alumni, Bill Fox was Emory.

“He had an infectious, contagious, embracing cheer and warmth that was irresistible. He was a pied piper on campus and the students just loved him. And of course the faculty did too. He brought an incandescent joy to all he did and to all who knew him.”

James T. Laney

President, Emory University, 1978–1993

“Bill represented the heart of Emory University. Anyone who knew Bill came to know his warm heart, his big laugh, his contagious enthusiasm, and his genuine interest. Bill cared deeply about what his friends were doing, and he had a wide circle of friends and confidantes. You always knew that you had Bill in your corner. When Bill was talking with you, it was as if the sun was shining on only you."

THE BILL FOX SCHOLARS AT EMORY COLLEGE

The Bill Fox Scholarship Endowment will provide need-based financial aid to students who are interested in studying the humanities. A native of rural Arkansas, Bill never forgot how he had struggled in early life, and he cared deeply about making Emory more accessible to students of all financial means. Creating an endowed scholarship in Bill’s memory will provide an enduring opportunity—one that affects not just a single student, but generations in perpetuity.

THE OPPORTUNITY

In 2012, Emory College of Arts and Sciences received one of the largest gifts in its history—a $50 million matching grant to create endowed scholarships. With this generous anonymous match, all contributions to the Bill Fox Scholarship Endowment will be matched two dollars to one. Bill built relationships that spanned generations at Emory; we can ensure that legacy will thrive through the future Bill Fox Scholars.

“The love we have for Emory is nothing less than profound and sacred. I had long dreamed of a place to which I could give my career and my limited abilities, and I found that beautifully at Emory.”
