FIELD TERM PLACED-BASED IMMERSION EXPERIENCE

LEARN WHERE YOU LIVE

Field Term is a trimester-long, place-based immersion experience offered during Brewster’s fall trimester. Students live, explore, and learn together at a stunning site in New Hampshire’s Belknap Mountains.

INTEGRATED LEARNING

At Field Term, the coursework is intentionally designed to promote connections between subjects and foster a deeper understanding of the natural world. This fully integrated and rigorous curriculum builds connective skills and develops curiosity through the umbrella themes of water, forests, and landscapes.

classes Immersed in nature

Students don’t merely learn about the natural world; they are immersed in it. The unique location of Field Term inspires students to embrace the natural world as a classroom, laboratory, and playground.

frequent field trips

Afternoons and weekends are filled with trips that allow students to develop their skills, apply their knowledge, and explore the rich geography that New Hampshire has to offer.

I want them to leave saying it was the most challenging thing they've ever done, but also one of the most fun and the most rewarding." Ben Rendall, Director of Field Term

LIFE IN FIELD TERM

Students sleep two or three to a cabin, which are equipped with heaters, beds, and desks. A communal fire pit sits nearby, and the main lodge–complete with a lounge, harkness table, kitchen, and iMac computers–is a short walk away.

a tight-knit community

Field Term fosters a feeling of community amongst the tight-knit group. Students share the responsibilities of cooking and cleaning, and they sit down together every night for a family-style dinner.

opportunity for visitors

Despite its secluded nature, Camp Bell resides just 35 minutes away from Brewster’s main campus. This proximity allows Brewster students and faculty to easily travel back and forth for visits and shared experiences.
