his statement was spoken by King Melchizedek to Santiago about the book Santiago is reading. By saying that the world’s greatest lie is that we are controlled by fate he is implying that individuals control their own futures.

.”It’s called the principle of favorability. When you play cards the first time, you are almost sure to win. Begginers luck.”

This statement was spoken by King Melchizedek to Santiago about preparing him for the journey he is going to go on. It means that if you try what you want to do you are more likely to succeed than if you don’t like it. It stood out to me because this seems to be true for most careers. This adds understanding to my personal legend because it shows if i like what I'm doing I should stick to it.

“Because wherever your heart is, that is where you’ll find your treasure.”

This is told to Santiago by the Alchemist. It is trying to say that wherever you want to be is a place you will find treasure.Think about your heart as a leader and if you follow it it will show you where to go, lead you in the right direction.We understand that Santiago is weary about listening to his heart because sometimes hearts are like rollercoasters of emotions. But the text suggests that if we keep listening, and paying attention to what makes us happy, when we can learn to understand our hearts despite their emotional

“There is only one way to learn, It’s through action. Everything you need to know you have learned through your journey”

The alchemist was talking to Santiago The only true way to learn something is by experience. It helps me achieve my personal legend because instead of sitting there thinking about it you should do something to turn it into a reality.The quote states a very easy to understand truth about life, that it is in experiencing and taking part in something that you really learn about it, whatever it is.In class we discussed there are a lot of times in life when someone tells you what you should or should not do, but it is not until we go through the experience ourselves that we really learn the reason behind the advice/lesson.

“You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it’s better to listen to what it has to say. That way, you’ll never have to fear an unanticipated blow.”

This quote is saying that if your heart is going to urge you to follow your personal legend so you might as well listen to it so you won’t have to experience heartache for not following your dreams.

“Maybe it is not that they were teaching me but that I was learning from them”

Santiago thought it to himself He was talking about how his sheep could have been teaching him It means you could be learning from something you didn’t know was teaching you.
