2017 Season Preview Merrimack College women's rowing

2016 rewind

The Merrimack College women's rowing program enjoyed another historic season in 2016, competing in six events and concluding its campaign with a trip abroad to participate in the Henley Women's Regatta on the Thames River in England. The Warriors' Fours boat posted multiple top-three finishes, including winning races at the NE10 Cup and at the UMass Lowell Invitational. At the Dad Vail Regatta, Merrimack's eights boat collected a second-place finish in the Petite Final.

The Warriors competition in the 29th Henley Women's Regatta featured a myriad of program firsts, most prominently the program's first victory on international waters. As a tune-up to Henley, the Navy and Gold took the water at the Reading Amateur Regatta - also on the Thames River - and advanced to the finals of the Women's Intermediate 2 Coxed Fours with a victory over the University of West England.

At Henley, Merrimack went toe-to-toe with Tideway Sculler School's Finn, comprised of a former Olympian, a world-record holder and a Team England national team rower, and fell one length short of besting their competition. At the time, head coach Dave LeFebvre stated, "This was Merrimack's most complete race of the year – possibly ever since I've been with the program. TSS was just a little bit quicker, but we were grateful to have been in the water – and very much in the running – against such a prestigious program."
