Next week 1st -7th September, 2019 marks Legacy Week here in Australia and as a school community we will supporting Legacy a number of different ways.

The Legacy Week appeal has been running since the 1940’s and is a time for all Australians to show their support for the widows and children whose loved ones have served our country.

Legacy Week is a time to give back to the families of those who have given so much. Today, Legacy supports 52,000 widows, widowers and their families.

  • As a school we will be having a Mufti Day next Thursday, 5th September, 2019, with a gold coin donation. There will be scones with jam & cream, damper with golden syrup, ANZAC slice and hot dogs for sale during the day.
  • Our Captains and Prefects will be selling badges to the public throughout the week.
  • In the school office there will also be badges that you can buy.

Thank you for your support of our fundraising efforts for Legacy Australia next week. Our involvement next week in supporting Legacy teaches our students, the next generation, that we will never forget the family of those who have pay the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom that we enjoy here in our nation.

Prayer Breakfast - Friday 20th September, 2019

Junior School Building - Official Opening - Friday 13th September 2019

Summer Uniform change over

Just a reminder that students change over to their Summer uniform on Monday 2nd September (after Fathers Day). If you need to purchase a summer uniform, you can go online at the following website www.flexischools.com.au Alternatively the uniform shop is open every Thursday morning (in term time) from 8.30am - 9.00am.

Year 8 Cafe, Level 3 on Fox - Now Open!!

It is with great excitement that Level 3 on Fox is re-opening for Semester 2!

As usual, we will be open Monday and Friday afternoons from 2.00pm - 2:50pm.

If you choose to visit us, please make sure you sign in at the front office before making your way up to the Textiles room on Level 3.

Upcoming Primary School Events

ASISSA Athletics Carnival

The ASISSA Athletics Carnival will be held tomorrow, Thursday 29th August, 2019 at ES Marks Stadium Randwick. This will be for selected students who qualify for events from our Primary School Athletics Carnival. Students will need to be at school at 7.00am SHARP if they are catching the bus. Students travelling by car need to be at the stadium 1 hr prior to their event.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is rain, please make sure your child brings a towel, extra clothing (shorts/skorts/tights) to change into if necessary, as well as warm clothes.

Upcoming Junior School Events

Wildlife Sydney Excursion - Year 4 - Wednesday 25th September, 2109

As more and more species disappear from the face of the Earth, we are caught up in a race to discover what we never knew we had. This excursion complements our Science and Geography program where we have studied various biomes and animal classification. During this excursion, we will be investigating different Australian animals and how they specifically adapt to help them survive a variety of habitats that can be found in Australia. Please note: There will be a small amount of interaction with certain animals throughout the day.

  • Where: Wild Life Sydney Zoo
  • When: 25th September 2019 (Wednesday)
  • What to wear: Full school uniform
  • What to bring: Water bottle, hat, lunch, snack (students are able to bring a smaller backpack if they would like).

Middle & Senior School News

Year 10 Instant Restaurants

On Friday August 16, the Year 10 Food Technology class had the opportunity to create their own instant restaurants as part of their unit on Food Service and Catering. Students needed to plan for, prepare and create their restaurant to give an idea of working in the food service industry.

Guests were treated to dishes from Mexican, Italian, Mediterranean, Italian and modern café cuisines.

Students did a great job at working together to prepare their dishes and bringing their ideas to life! Well done Year 10!

CSSA State Athletics Carnival - Friday, 23rd August 2019

On Friday 23rd August, 13 of our high school students had the privilege and opportunity to participate in the CSSA Secondary State Athletics Carnival. This was held at Sydney Olympic Athletic Park where students from Taree down to Wagga Wagga all came to give their best efforts. Some outstanding achievements were made on the day with everyone giving their best efforts. Some notable achievements, with each of the following students advancing through to CIS athletics; William J came third in high jump - achieving a personal best jumping a whopping 181cm, Hamish T came first in javelin throwing 36.41m, Jessica M participated in five events achieving third place in long jump (4.30m) and third in her 400m run (1.06 mins).

Cameron K placed outstandingly across many of the events he participated in – resulting with Cameron receiving the under 13 boys aged champion for the day! His achievements on the day were first in his 100m and 200m sprints along with coming first in long jump. He also placed second in his 400m race. His results were; running 100m in 12.62 seconds, running 200m in 25.68 seconds, jumping 4.84m and running his 400m race in 58.09 seconds. Congratulations Cameron on such an outstanding achievement!

Zach G, Alana H, Adamo K, Jaden M, Isaac N, Nicholas B, Renee L, Arna T and Tiffany A all had the privilege in competing on the day with outstanding efforts but unable to achieve the results needed to send them through to CIS athletics.

Thank you to the families that were able to come and support their children on the day.

Upcoming Middle & Senior School Events

Year 7 & 8 STEM Day - Thursday 29th August, 2019

Selected students have been asked to attend the Year 7 & 8 STEM Day at Mountain View Adventist College tomorrow. Please ensure students are at School ready to depart by 8.00am. Students will return around 3.15pm – Please ensure full school uniform is worn and students take a packed lunch/water bottle.

Year 10 Bible Excursion - Wednesday 4th September, 2019

As part of the Year 10 Bible course, Year 10 students will be going on an excursion to Cooranbong to visit the Adventist heritage sites of Avondale College and Sunnyside, the home of Ellen G. White.

Students need to arrive at School at 8.30am, and will be returning to School around 3.00pm. Full school uniform is to be worn, including blazer and hat. Students have been given the opportunity to pre-order lunch, or they may bring their own food for the day. Please see Skoolbag notice on this for further information.

Please complete your child's permission slip and return it to your child’s Homeroom teacher by Friday, 30th of August.


Year 9 Camp - 10th - 13th September, 2019

September 10th to 13th will see our year 9 class set out on the annual Royal National Park hike. The students will spend four days and three nights navigating the beautiful coast line and pristine environment that has been preserved in both the Royal National Park and Heathcote National Park. Information and permission notes regarding this camp have been sent home, along with a camp equipment guide. If you have a student in year 9 and have not received these documents please contact the school office or Mr Starrett promptly.

We are looking forward to another awesome outdoor experience, which will help our year 9 class to continue to develop character, teamwork skills and resilience.

Home and School News

The last Home and School meeting went well, we had new people joining the forum and lots of great ideas. 2020 is looking good for interactive events. Feel free to join us for the next Home and School meeting on Tuesday 3rd September, 2019 at 7.00pm. It will be held in the shared space of the Years 3 & 4 classrooms on Level 3 of the Junior School building.

“We are still looking for some volunteers for the Home and School (1) Primary School Banking - it requires about 2 hours per week and (2) Depositing the Canteen money.

Meals With Love

A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who have helped us prepare meals this year - we couldn't have done it without you! With the last blast of winter and the flu season, our freezer is again running low. If you have time to make something extra or buy a meal - we would really appreciate it! We do ask for no pork or shellfish products please. Don't forget to list the ingredients used, along with the date the food was made. Please see the Canteen if you would like containers.

Superhero Dress-up Day – It was fantastic to see all the awesome Superheroes that came along to school last Friday. Thank you to everyone who got involved and joined in on the fun.

‘Big Dreams’ Book Week Performance – Our last event for Book Week will be held at 9am this Friday, 30th August, 2019 at Fox Valley Community Centre.

Years 5&6

Last week Year 5 & 6 all got to choose a book to read from our ‘Blind Date with a BookStand. The books were all selected by the students and then wrapped in brown paper with only 4-5 keywords to give clues to their contents. Please make sure these books are returned promptly after being read so they can be returned to their owners. Thanking you.

Middle/Senior School

Perfect Book Match Competition – This is the last week for entries to our Perfect Book Match Competition. One entry per middle/senior school student. Prizes will be gift vouchers to a local book shop.


We are in need of wonderful volunteers to help stick labels on bags, chop fruit, pack snacks and serve our lovely students through out this term. Please drop in and say hi for 30 mins to a couple of hours any day of the week.

International Gymnastics Competition - New Zealand

“I’m delighted that I went to my first international gymnastics competition, in Christchurch, New Zealand. I had lots of fun and my team and my family cheered for me.

I competed at all 4 apparatus (beam, bars, floor and vault) and I came 8th at bars.

Australian Institute of Sport - Canberra

Earlier in the year I qualified as part of NSW Team Future squad in Gynmastics, I recently had the opportunity to go on a weekend camp, to train at the Australian Institute if Sports (AIS) in Canberra.

Being part of a supportive and friendly team makes the training fun and enjoyable and I look forward to many more opportunities like these.” (Emma D - 3K).
