San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato kristen Ruiz

On April of 2016, I visited the city of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. This city is characterized for its pre-Hispanic colonial features. The cobblestone street are routes to wonderful restaurants and local businesses. The city houses follow a palette of browns, yellows, reds, and oranges. I remember one of the local business owners telling me the city encourages residents to maintain indigenous and artisans, as reflected throughout the Southern Mexico.

San Miguel de Allende is known for its multiple cathedrals throughout its town, some replica's from those of Rome. On the third day of visiting, a tour guide mentioned that ceramic angels or virgin marys adorned most buildings. The tourist also mentioned that these religious symbols were sacred to the belief that it would protect townspeople from evil.

I was present for at least three weddings. Around the spring there many parades in Mexico due to Easter. In San Miguel de Allende a popular parade is the donkey parades called "La Burrita". A donkeys leads the groom and bride around the main plaza followed by residents, family members, friends, and any tourist to the beat of mariachi and huge puppets. The pride is very festive and upbeat waking up everyone in town in celebration of love.

San Miguel de Allende also holds a strong sense of indigenous influence in its Artesian Market. Handmade bags, woven blankets, beaded jewelry, and wooden ornaments are sold for great prices. An interesting fact about this city is that it only supports its local business and no corporate businesses or are found within the city's radius. A huge attraction are the delicacy in products sold.

I highly recommend visiting the beautiful city of San Miguel de Allende, known as the city of Humanity, recognized for its strong history of pre-Hispanic and colonial life.
