Community Boating Center - Annual Appeal Teaching positive life values to youth through boating

Humanity has always believed that water has healing and transformative powers. Throughout time, civilizations have looked to the water for physical harmony, spiritual guidance, and wisdom. Biologist Wallace J. Nichols believes we all have a “blue mind” and that water holds power to unlock untapped potential.

“Water has the power to trigger a mildly meditative state characterized by calm, peacefulness, unity and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction with life in that moment. We are beginning to learn that our brains are hardwired to react positively to water and that being near it can calm and connect us, increase innovation and insight, and even heal what’s broken.”

When you give to the Community Boating Center’s Annual Fund, you are sharing our belief in the power of water. It has the power to heal, teach, and motivate. It allows us to daydream, reflect and imagine. It provokes harmony, compassion, and awe. CBC provides a sanctuary for children, regardless of means, to enjoy the outdoors, and harness the power of the water in a SAFE and FUN environment where they excel as individuals and as part of our community.

During the past year, CBC’s year-round programming has continued to expand into more schools. We have connected thousands of area youth to the water through a wide variety of programs that include: sailing, rowing, kayaking, boat building, underwater remote operated vehicle design and construction, windmill blade design and construction, water quality monitoring, marine debris cleanup, and our ocean stewardship STEM program. With YOUR help, more than eighty percent (80%) of the children enrolled in CBC’s 2017 Summer Youth Sailing Program, a program they could not have otherwise afforded, attended free of charge.

CBC’s Annual Fund maintains every part of the CBC budget including financial aid, facility maintenance, and education. Gifts made to the CBC Annual Fund have a direct impact on the quality of our programs that our students of Greater New Bedford experience every day. We are tremendously grateful for YOU. Please consider a generous gift to our 2017 Annual Fund and know that your gift will make a life-changing difference for a child.
