Great Expectations By: Olivia Palma

Summary: Pip relaizes that criminals have interjeccted into his life many times but before he can thouroghly reflect on this he is interupted by Estella and I think it really sinks in how much of an effect Estella has had on his life and I think he starts to really piece together all the games that she plays and how she taunts him without knowing she is doing it.

"Before I could (if I could have answered so difficult a question at all), she repeated, love her, love her, love her! If she favours you, love her. If she wounds you, love her. If she tears your heart to pieces-and as it gets older and stronger, it will tear deeper-love her, love her, love her! (29)"

She is reminding us yet again of her awful betrayal story that has ruined her life and she seems like she is hinting to pip without him noticing that that's how she raised Estella to be.

"Do you want me then, said Estella, turning suddenly with a fixed and serious, if not angry, look, "to deceive and entrap you? (39)"

Kinda bringing up that fact that Estella could be one of the "Great Expectations" and that she is cold, bitter, and harsh and that's how she has always been and how she is always gonna be. She seems to just not care enough to change even though she sees these flaws.

"I am ashamed to say it, I returned, and yet it's no worse to say it than to think it. You call me a lucky fellow. Of course, I am. I was a blacksmith's boy but yesterday; I am-what shall i say i am-to-day? (30)"

People in Pip's life are what they do. Their work is just what they are and this makes Pip want to be what he consideres a "gentleman" even more. He wants people to see him for what he is not what he does. But he still needs to still work on it and he can only dream now that one day he will reach that point in his life.

Theme: People aren't always who they appear to be.
