Cold War in the Skies Created By Santos and Kellen

The Cold War in the Skies was an arms race between the Soviet Union and the United States to create the first and best long range rockets also known as Intercontinental Ballistic Missile "ICBMs"

The first ICBM

While the U.S. was focused using planes to deliver bombs the Soviets were developing a missile that could travel from Russia to the U.S., the first intercontinental ballistic missile.

The U.S. was falling behind Russia and it became startlingly apparent when Russia used of their rockets to launch Sputnik, the first artificial satellite to orbit earth.

After the U.S found out about the Satellite that the Soviets launched the U.S. wanted to launch their own rocket. The U.S. rushed the creation of the satellite and launched it when it wasn't ready and it came crashing to the ground.

In may 1960 the soviet union showed their power by shooting down a american spy plane called the U-2. it was flying 15 miles above the ground because they thought they were immune to attack that high. The U-2 incident shattered this confidence.
