“SONS LOOKING FOR FATHERS” FOREWORD
In his new book, "Son’s Looking For Father’s", Dr. Lloyd Benson, Sr. takes the father on the journey to becoming all that God created him to be for his son. He provides numerous examples of what a true father is and provides you with a road map to becoming better. With each chapter, Dr. Benson unravels common misconceptions of the father and son relationship, while encouraging you to go beyond self and pressing into who God called you to be.
Becoming the Father God intended is the great mandate on all of us as men. 1 Conrinthians 4:15 says, “For though ye have ten thousand instuctors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.” Stated Fatherhood is not a commodity, but it is a privilege from God to be called such a person. As a father, our job is not to wield power over our seemingly weaker sons. Instead, God strategically gave us the divine privilege to guide with patience and understanding. When done correctly, your fathership propels the son into purpose and destiny.
In Luke 12:32, Jesus says, “ Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” this is a perfect example of the attitude we as fathers must take with our sons as we see them grow and wax strong in their endeavors. Our sons should know that seeing them succeed gives us good pleasure. There can be no success without a successor.
Fatherhood is an institution you learn to appreciate more as you grow. There is a profound connection between the Father and the Son. As you grow older, you start to see and understand the dsicpline of the father and how that behavior shapes and molds a son. In 37 years, I have never saw my dad sleep late. He modeled the behavior that ultimately provided the frame for the picture of the man I have become.
To know and understand your role, the role of a Father as God called you is the greates privilege and responsibility. God had you on his mind when he gave you sons because he knew you had purpose inside of you that would supersede your generation. He gave you sons to perpetuate His vision for the Church and Family.
