Petition courses for LIS requirements

The Liberal Studies program has identified how course fit within program requirements, but we are open to considering reasonable requests for exceptions to both the interdisciplinary elective and the Boyer categories requirements. These exceptions must be formally communicated to the Records Office using the student petition form.

You can find the student petition, along with other useful forms by going to the UIS A-Z Index and looking under F for Forms (Records and Registration)

For "Type of Request" use the drop-down menu to select "Exception - Program Requirements".

In the rationale field, provide a clear request. For example:

  • Use COM 341 Media and Social Change for the Boyer Language requirement.
  • Use PSY 355 Health Psychology for Boyer Nature requirement and HIS 345 US Women's History for Boyer Identity requirement.
  • Use WGS 301 Intro to Women and Gender Studies and AAS 433 Civil Rights Movement of the 20th Century as Liberal Studies electives.

The student petition does not allow you to save your effort. You must print and send it - scanned/emailed is fine - to Andy Egizi
