Eagle Spotlight

Camden Dempsey, Troop 1876

My project was in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy China and was designed to mitigate soil erosion and to promote a healthier ecosystem in Inner Mongolia, China. Over the course of 3 days, myself and a group of 32 volunteers planted 100 trees in Horinger, Inner Mongolia

I decided to do my project because my family and I had visited China multiple times over the last few years, and I wanted to give back to such an amazing community and group of people.

I do scouting as I love the messages and lessons taught through scouting. Without scouting, I would not have many of the skills and experiences that I have today!

Professional's Pause

Scouts BSA launching at the beginning of this month has me a mix of ecstatic and envious. Watching these amazing young women jump into the legacy of traditional Boy Scouting, for them to learn and experience and achieve all the Boy Scouts of America has to offer reminds me how blessed I am to be part of this movement.

My brother is an Eagle. And like any little sister, I wanted to be as cool as my Big Brother. I was a Girl Scout for about 13 years- earning my Bronze, Silver, and Gold, and joined Venturing at 14 years old. I loved it, but it wasn't quite what I wanted. Gold never felt equivalent to Eagle as much as my dad assured me it was, and my Troop wasn't really Girl-led. It felt like I missed out on something.

For the Girls coming into Scouts BSA- this February you are a part of a historic change for Scouting. Learn and live the Oath and Law because now more than any time I can remember we, as a people, need Scouts.

Food for Thought,
