EEK - Early Entrance to Kindergarten Liberty elementary school district #25

Beginning Kindergarten is an exciting time in life! Arizona State statutes grant entrance to kindergarten for all students turning 5 before September 1st of the current school year. The state also allows for Early Entrance to Kindergarten (EEK) for children turning 5 before January 1st when it is in the best interest of the child. Early Entrance programs and policies vary from district to district.

The Liberty Elementary School District is proud to offer an Early Entrance program for qualifying students. Interested families may review the steps below and begin the process by completing the application (found in Step 1)

STEP 1: Complete the application for Early Entrance by clicking here: (Aplicación para entrada temprana al kindergarten aqui)

STEP 2: Attend a Parent University session (sign up is within the application). Parent Universities are held during the months of May and June.

STEP 3: Select a testing appointment (at the completion of Parent University)

STEP 4: Attend testing appointment (testing held in June and July)

STEP 5: Receive email notification of results within 2 days.

STEP 6: (if qualified) Register your child, in person at the district office, for school and summer Jump Start program.

FAQs

IS THERE A FEE FOR TESTING?

Answer: There is no fee for testing.

DOES MY CHILD GET EXTRA POINTS FOR BEING CLOSER TO THE AUGUST 31ST CUT OFF DATE?

Answer: No. There are no additional/fewer points adjusted based on birth date.

CAN MY CHILD TEST IF WE RESIDE OUTSIDE THE LIBERTY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT BOUNDARIES?

Answer: Yes. Liberty Elementary School District offers Early Entrance to Kindergarten as an open enrollment opportunity for all qualifying students.

WHAT IF I WANT MY CHILD TO ATTEND A SCHOOL OTHER THAN OUR SCHOOL OF RESIDENCE?

Answer: Upon EEK qualification, you must submit a request for Open Enrollment through the district office. If you submit a request prior to qualification, your request will be placed in a "holding" status until after EEK testing is completed.

WHAT IS ON THE EARLY ENTRANCE TO KINDERGARTEN TEST?

Answer: The Early Entrance to Kindergarten test assesses a variety of school readiness skills including basic math and literacy skills as well as social and behavior readiness.

CAN MY CHILD RETAKE THE TEST IF THEY DO NOT QUALIFY THE FIRST TIME?

Answer: No. All initial testing results are final.

WHAT SHOULD I TELL MY CHILD ABOUT TESTING?

Answer: Families have found it helpful to tell their children that it is almost time for Kindergarten and this is a chance to show off all the things that they have already learned. Positive, no-pressure statements are encouraged.

WHAT IF WE CHANGE OUR MINDS ABOUT EARLY ENTRANCE?

Answer: Some families do decide after a Parent University or testing that Early Entrance is not right for their children. The Liberty Elementary School District supports families in making decisions that are best for their children and looks forward to welcoming those children as Kindergarteners the following school year.
