Project 1 - Structural Equilibrium
For the project regarding structural equilibrium, I partnered with Nathan Carlton in order to construct a sleek and efficient support for a cube weighing at least one pound. The primary idea that drove our design was the concept of the trivet or pyramid structure and the known strength and sturdiness of an object with only 3 points.
The design concept behind our bridge was to construct a strong, lightweight, and sound structure while possessing a clean, linear, and triangular aesthetic. It consists of two symmetrical sides with lateral and diagonal joints in the middle and top to connect them. The bridge was able to withhold 25.5 pounds before collapsing at its major joints.
