Ensure School Districts Design School Facilities with Technology and the Common Core State Standards in Mind

"We cannot educate the next generation of students in schools that are relics of the past," Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Torlakson's Schools of the Future (SOTF) report in 2011, establishes statewide recommendations for funding, building, and modernizing schools to accommodate new education technologies and classroom designs for modern curriculum configurations.

  • Establish a California Code of Regulations that supports creating schools that reflects 21st century skills of teaching & learning
  • Align state funding with state sustainability goals including modernization and rebuilding of schools
  • Funding for 21st Century Renovation Program

Once the initial capital investment is made, the success of our technology rich learning environment lies our ability to maintain and upgrade hardware and software and train teachers (and students).

Trained technology specialists will certainly become an important position on 21st century school sites. This operational cost must be met.
