Identify where the artist from? Grew up? Time period?

Gordon Parks was born on November 30, 1912. He mostly focused on photography, but he was also interested in music and writing. He also spent some time directing films. He was even the first Black man to produce and direct a major film. This was a huge accomplishment because during the time he lived there was a lot of segregation making it hard for anyone of color to do anything. His films were about the struggle of black people. This really brought awareness to the unfair actions towards people of color.

Define what happened in their life that was significant? Memorable? An event that stands out?

Since Gordon Parks lived during the civil rights movements, there was a lot of memorable events that he could capture the lifestyle of people of color. He also helped bring new freedoms to Black people by showing that they are capable of doing things just the same as anyone else. He did this by being the first black man to produce and direct a major film. This shows that he could do whatever he wanted to.

Explain the overall meaning of their artwork?

Gordon Parks' work is very important because it bring awareness to the struggles of people of color during this time. He also showed that a black man can do anything a white man can. His photos are really deep and make you think about how life was for these people. Without his work, you can't try to understand what how separate things were.
