“Footloose: The Musical” begins May 19 through August 12

“Footloose: The Musical” is about a young teenager from Chicago named Ren McCormack who moves to a small town to live with his aunt and uncle. While trying to fit in, he soon discovers that rock music and dancing have been banned thanks to a local minister.

The Barter is right in the middle historic downtown Abingdon, Virginia.

This 1984 hit movie of the same name brings new life to the source material through its nostalgic musical numbers and timeless story.

Footloose is “a transformative tale of how people of firm convictions come to each, and then discover themselves anew.” - Russell

Some of the iconic songs to be included are: “Footloose,” “Somebody’s Eyes,” “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Let’s Hear it for the Boy,” and “Almost Paradise.”

Barter Theatre is named The State Theatre of Virginia and its productions are always quality. Some of the many famous names that have graced the stage are: Gregory Peck, Patricia Neal, Ernest Borgnine, Hume Cronyn, Ned Beatty, Gary Collins, Wayne Knight, and Larry Linville.
