Schroeder Reporter SEPTEMBER 11, 2020

Welcome to the 2020/2021 School Year!

Absences and Tardies in Virtual Learning - If your child will be absent or late, we ask parents to call (248) 823-3601 before 8:30am to report the absence or tardy. This procedure ensures accurate attendance.

Transition Plans Continue - Last week, TSD told you about the first step of a transition to optional in-person learning with the limited opening of our TSD Preschool. TSD has taken another step, with the first phase of in-person services for Occupational and Physical Therapy. As we move forward with planning over the next few weeks, the focus will be on bringing back students in some of our special education programs as well as transitioning specific grades back into our general education classrooms in a hybrid model. (In hybrid, students would attend in-person class on specific days and learn virtually on others.) If all goes as planned during the phase-in, TSD would add additional grades in groups over a specified period of time. This transition/hybrid model would be optional and parents would always have the choice to have their children continue to learn in the virtual setting. In order to assist with preparation, it's important for us to know your preference for your own children. TSD has developed the following survey with some specifics and FAQs in the description at the beginning.

We are asking parents to fill out one survey per family before it closes on Monday, September 14th at 10:00am:

Student Allergy Information Survey - Earlier this week, an important allergy information survey was emailed to students with known nut allergies. If your child has a nut allergy and you did not receive the survey, please email Mrs. Ohman at gohman@troy.k12.mi.us.

Schoology Notifications - It is important for all parents to turn on the Schoology Notifications. This will allow you to stay connected to your child’s classroom. Please follow the directions on the link below to turn on notifications: https://support.schoology.com/hc/en-us/articles/201000803-Personal-Account-Parent-Notifications

Technology, PowerSchool and Schoology - If you require assistance or have any questions in regards to technology, Powerschool or Schoology, please make note of the following help resources below. Please include your child's name, grade and school in the correspondence for easier replies!

5th Grade Instrumental Music Information - Parents of 5th graders are invited to an Instrumental Music Informational Zoom Meeting on Monday. September 14th at 7:00pm. The link to the Zoom meeting was emailed to all Schroeder 5th grade families earlier today.

Step 1: Place books on hold - Each child can place up to two books on hold at a time using Destiny Discover. Click here for a tutorial: https://vimeo.com/456359688

Step 2: Wait for the email! - IMPORTANT! Do not show up to book pickup until you have received an email that your books are ready. Mrs. Kang will email you with pickup details.

Step 3: Pick up your books - Books will be placed in bags or envelopes in the front vestibule just north of the flagpole (NOT by the main office). The vestibule will be open on Thursdays from 7am-6pm. Please wear masks and keep distance from others.

Step 4: Read, enjoy, return, repeat - Library books are due back in 2 weeks. You can return them to the vestibule on Thursdays between 7am-6pm. Please return books in the original bag/envelope, and do not leave books outside of the school.

Per recommendations by the American Library Association, all books will be quarantined for a minimum of 5 days before they are available to be checked out again. Questions? Contact Mrs. Kang by email at: jkang@troy.k12.mi.us

Employment Opportunity - Schroeder is preparing for when Troy schools transition into a hybrid or in-seat learning environment. Schroeder is looking for a few people to join our Noon Aide team! This is a paid position that involves supervising and assisting our students during lunch and lunch recess on the playground. If you are interested in learning more about this position, please email Gretchen at gohman@troy.k12.mi.us.
