A Love of the Sawtooths By Michele Haynes

It’s hard to come up with words to describe the beauty of the Sawtooth Mountains. They are so much more than just a mountain range. For me, they are a place where I have pushed myself to be stronger and, in the process, have made some amazing memories with my parents and siblings.

It's become a family tradition to meet in Stanley every September to embark on another epic adventure. I grew up backpacking around the McCall area and, let me tell you, the Sawtooth Mountains are like no others I have seen. They are rugged and beautiful…dotted with countless crystal clear lakes. The views are indescribable.

Although I love everything about the time I spend in the mountains, there is something special about the mornings. Enjoying a cup of coffee while watching the sun creep down the mountain and across the lake is one of life’s greatest pleasures.

My siblings and I are so grateful to our parents, who instilled a love of backpacking in us.

I’m so excited to be taking my husband, Nick, and our three boys on their first Sawtooth backpacking trip this summer. I absolutely cannot wait for them to fall in love with this beautiful mountain range like I have.
