These quotes are basically talking about how they've come so far and yet they had lost parts of them and lost whats most valuable to them. Candy lost his dog, his dog was suffering and was miserable. Yet, coming from so far with him after candy made a decision he was hopelessly sad losing that apart of him. Curley's wife actually just died yet, losing not only a big part of hershelf, she was lonely. Marrying a man she met just so she can go leave the life she had with her mom. Only little did she know that marrying him wasn't supposed to be making her happy but brought her the feeling to be alone. George shot lennie, but coming from them chasing the dream of "fatta the land" they wanted together, one of them walked away alive at the end of this book. This book the characters had dealt with loneliness at many period times.

The Scarlet Ibis:

"I hadn't run too far before I came tired... Finally I went back and found him to huddled beneath a red nightshade bush along the road...limply he fell backwards onto the earth." (Page unknown)
