GOAL-

The goal of the populists was to replace the Democrats of the nations second party. They wanted to do this by forming an alliance of farmers of the West and South, and with industry works of the East. The populist candidate of that year was James B. Weaver, and he got over 1,0410,000.

BELIEFS-

  • MORE POWER TO THE GOVERNMENT
  • FREE COINAGE OF SILVER
  • ABOLITION OF NATIONAL BANKS
  • PLENTY OF PAPER MONEY SHOULD BE USED
  • A GRADUATED INCOME TAX
  • GOVERNMENT SHOULD OWN ALL FORMS OF TRANSPORTATION AND COMMUNICATION
  • ELECTION OF SENATORS BY DIRECT VOTE OF THE PEOPLE
  • A SUBTREASURY SCHEME OR SOME SIMILAR SYSTEM SHOULD BE CREATED
