MAC News Term 2 Week 2

Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to MAC for Term 2. I hope that all of our College families have had a chance to spend some time together over the Easter break and were able to catch their breath after a busy Term 1. It has been wonderful to see so many happy faces of students in the past two weeks, refreshed and ready to go.

On Monday, we gathered as a community to commemorate ANZAC Day. Mrs Chantelle Manoe from our Secondary staff, who coordinated the event, reported that our college Captains and leaders from the Primary and Secondary Schools did a great job in rallying the entire school together, providing music and setting an atmosphere that honoured our soldiers past and present.

The speaker was SGT Kerrin Young and 5 CSSB – 5 LOG SPT COY provided members for the Catafalque Party. So many of us were uplifted by the service and filled with gratitude for those who gave their lives so that we may live in freedom and continue to lay down their lives participating in active service.

Last Sunday was a day where we honoured another group of very special people in our lives - the mothers and mother figures in our lives. Each year the College holds a special Mother's Day Breakfast, and it is always a popular event. Last Friday morning was no exception with our staff and students going above and beyond to provide a delicious start to the day. It was definitely a wonderful morning to celebrate the mothers and significant women in our school community - we thank God for all that they do for us, and also a special thanks to the Home and School Committee and specifically Cheree Vermeulen for the running of the Mother's Day Stall.

As we enter this term there is lots of activity coming up on top of our regular day to day learning here at MAC. I hope you'll join me in praying that Term 2 will be a time where our students will have many positive learning experiences, gain some happy memories and be able to be fruitful in the gifts and talents that they have been given.

Parent School Improvement Survey

A chosen number of our College families would have received an email today regarding our School Improvement Survey. The survey offers parents and caregivers the opportunity to give feedback regarding various facets of the College's organisational structure, with the aim of improving well-being, engagement and student outcomes.

Participation is voluntary but it would be greatly appreciated if the parents chosen could take part in this confidential survey. Please see your email for more information.

Additionally, if you would like to participate in this survey, please see the office and they will arrange it for you. We value all responses and support, as the survey will highlight the areas we do well, as well as areas that need improvement so we can make MAC even better.

Please ensure that your child comes to school on their Sport Day in full sport uniform, including their hat and water bottle. If your child is unable to participate for any reason, please contact the College or alternatively, send a letter outlining the reason why.

NAPLAN tests the skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress. The NAPLAN online test window for our College is from 14-16 May. NAPLAN testing will be completed by students in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9.

Winter School Uniform

During Term 2 & 3, students need to be wearing their full winter uniform. This includes ties for both girls and boys. Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly labelled with your child’s name.

Mother's Day Nursing Home Visit

This term Stage 2 have been blessed with the opportunity to visit our local nursing home. Ten students from each class represented our school at a very special Mother's Day program with some incredible ladies who reside at Whiddon Easton Park. The students told Mother's Day stories, wrote poetry, performed a few songs and played bingo with the residents after having afternoon tea. It was a lovely afternoon and very much enjoyed by the students and the local ladies.

STEM Club Term 2 Update

This year was the beginning of STEM Club here at MAC with an ambitious project of a robotic arm. At the start of term two students have finished making a design using CAD software (computer aided design) and are now learning an entirely new programming language! In the image the students have just celebrated their successful program being executed. The STEM Club is hoping to have their prototype arm complete this term so that they can start to program the Arduino to move the arm.

Chaplaincy News

Kingdom Culture

We learnt in Term 1 that we are a part of God’s family and we are his children. Being a part of God’s Royal family means that there is a culture that we have a responsibility to live by.

We now live the way God leads us to live. When we live this way, we live a blessed life.

We will be exploring the Beatitudes that Jesus set out for us in Matthew 5 in our PCG classes, staff worships and chapels. This will show us a royal family culture that Jesus would like us to have.

For the Kingdom!

Chaplaincy Team.

Home & School News

MAC Home and School hosted our 2019 Mother’s Day stall last Friday, for all Primary and Secondary school children.

We want to thank all our wonderful volunteers who came and invested their time and efforts into blessing our children and our school. We appreciate each and every one of you!

The students had a great time choosing and purchasing gifts, and the volunteers were pleased to help them and also enjoyed one another's company. What a blessing it is to work alongside one another.

MAC Home and School are partnering with the school in this term's, "MAC has Talent" night. We are hosting a silent auction on the night. We are looking for donations that we can auction off. Any items, vouchers or hampers would be great! Please support us by attending this great event and come prepared to bid for the auctions, which will provide much needed funds for our Year 11 and 12 Mission Trip. All the help we can get would be greatly appreciated! Please contact via: acvaus@gmail.com

Office / Accounts Reminders

If any of our current College families have children they are wanting to enrol for 2020, please ensure that you get your enrolment forms in as soon as possible. There is a high demand for placements for the 2020 school year, and in order for us to reserve placements for siblings of current students, enrolment applications need to be lodged in the office promptly.

Communicating with the College

There are various ways of communicating with the College when needed. The College office is open from 8:00am through to 5:00pm during term time and parents can also email (reception@macarthur.adventist.edu.au) or contact us by phone (9605 3200). During holidays, the College office is closed but voicemails and email are checked regularly.

Winter Uniform

All students from K-12 should now be wearing their winter uniform. If parents / caregivers are unsure of what their child should be wearing, please refer to the College Handbook, which is handed out to parents at the beginning of the year and is available year-round from the College office.

Also, the office still has a large amount of clothing ending up in lost property at the end of the school day. If the clothing is not clearly labelled with your child's name (not just initials) it makes it very difficult to ensure that the item is returned to it's owner, so please remember to label your children's uniform items.
