Chesapeake District Junior Civitan #thisistheyear

As we get ready to start a new school year and another exciting year of service through our Junior Civitan Clubs, we wanted to share all the fun things that happened at the 2017 Junior Civitan International Convention in Birmingham, AL June 24-27, 2017.

It was a weekend of fun, learning, friendships and celebrating our accomplishments.

BWI to Birmingham!
This was the Centennial Celebration of Civitan and for the first-time ever the Junior Civitan and (adult) Civitan Conventions were held jointly.

We spent our first afternoon, meeting the candidates running for 2017-2018 Junior Civitan International Board of Director Positions, including our very own Chesapeake Governor, Anushe Ashraf; keep in mind, there are only three (3) Director Positions and we had six (6) candidates--exciting!

We learned about and took the pledge for the International Social Cause Awareness Campaign, "Spread the Word to End the Word", and we became Creed Club members.

After we met the candidates, we had a little time to relax.

Opening Ceremony

That evening, we attended the first-ever combined (adult) Civitan and Junior Civitan Opening Ceremonies Celebrating Civitan's Centennial! The Flags represent the Countries of Civitan Clubs in attendance. Did you know Civitan has Clubs in over 47 Countries?

Duane Capps, Civitan International President and Cambron Bice, Junior Civitan International President, ring the respective bells to call the Convention(s) to order. Shropshire Scholarships were presented to 16 Junior Civitans, including our 2016-2017 Chesapeake Governor and International Director, Eowyn Pak.

We ended the night with a Dance Party dressed as our favorite Dr. Seuss Characters.

The morning was filled with Workshops, Club Officer and District Officer Training

We enjoyed a group lunch with our district to share all the ideas we learned in the morning.
