Isham Update October 2019

Residentials

Well the first month back was certainly a busy one; our Year 6 and 4 children arrived home safely and very warn out from their residentials. Year 6 had an action packed week full of climbing, rock pooling and singing as well as lots of fun and laughter.

Year 4 had a fantastic time paddle boarding and kayaking (to name a few activities). All the children were incredibly well behaved and a credit to everyone - the children are very excited to share their photos and stories during their assembly.

Harvest Festival

We hope many of you will join us for our Harvest Festival Service at St Peter’s Church on Thursday 10th October. The service will start at 2.15 and will include readings from the children as well as songs performed by both the school and choir. Once the service has finished, our Year 6 children will be running our annual Harvest Sale in school with all the proceeds going to Water Aid - details to follow.

Values Families

The tokens are once again mounting up with Willow and Sycamore family both fighting for the lead. Our new reception children have now all been told which family they belong to and we will be holding our first Autumn themed Values Family event before half term.

Scarecrow Festival

A big thank to everyone who came out and supported the Isham Scarecrow Festival in September. It was a fabulous event and a massive well done to our Year 5 children (and their parents) for creating a collection of scarecrows for the school.

FOIS

For those of you new to school, we have a fabulous PTA, known as FOIS (Friends of Isham School). They meet regularly to organise events that raise money for the school and their first meeting of the year was held on Tuesday 24th September. Caroline Reed, our lovely Chair, sadly decided to step down from her role this year. Caroline has done a fantastic job leading FOIS over the last few years, and we would like to express our gratitude for all the time and dedication she has invested in FOIS in order to provide valuable resources and experiences for our children – thank you Caroline! We would also like to say a big welcome to Emma Rutter who will be taking on the role of Chair this year; Emma will be competently supported by Sarah Webster as Secretary and Nina Cooper as Treasurer, who are both continuing in their roles. FOIS are always on the lookout for volunteers to help with events and, if you want to be kept informed of all the things FOIS are doing, please drop them an email at fois@ishamprimary.org.uk and they will add you to their mailing list. The minutes from the last meeting can be found on our website - www.ishamprimary.org.uk

Parent Prayer Group

Our lovely parent prayer group meet in school approximately every two weeks. Our aim is to make sure that Isham and its children are included in our prayers, as well as helping parents to become involved in the Christian life of the school. They meet on different days and times so that everyone can make at least one meeting a term if they want to and you are more than welcome to bring Pre- school children with you. We now have a prayer tree in school and invite parents and children to add their prayers to the tree for the next meeting - you don't have to be able to make the meeting to add a prayer.

The next meeting is on Wednesday 9th at 9 o'clock  and we look forward to seeing many of you there.

Term Time Holidays

Isham Primary School does not authorise term time absence, other than in exceptional circumstances. All planned absence should be discussed with Mrs Howarth in the first instance.

Whilst all term-time absence impacts negatively on your child’s learning in school, parents should specifically avoid taking children out of school in the following periods and in the run up to these times:

  • Y1 children: Wk commencing 8th June (DfE Phonics test)
  • Y2 children: May (DfE SATs Assessment period)
  • Y4 children: June (DfE Times Table tests)
  • Y6 children: 11th-14th May incl (DfE SATS week)

We would like to remind you that a Penalty Notices (PN) will be issued with immediate effect if your child misses ten school sessions (a full day equates to TWO school sessions) in any 6 week period.

This includes:

  • Any absence marked as unauthorised - this includes holiday
  • Persistent late arrival after the register has closed

If the absence is for longer than 15 days, a PN may not be appropriate & the matter may lead to a prosecution.

A PN is issued with an invoice of £120 per child, per parent. 28 days are given to settle. If this is paid within 21 days, it reduces to £60.

Please be reassured that, at Isham, we would rather work with you regarding attendance and appreciate all discussion with our parent body regarding planned absence.

Admissions 2020

Now is the time of year when potential applicants for our Reception class 2020 are asked to apply.

For those of you with children who will be 4 between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020, our Open Hours for the 2020 intake are shown below. Please confirm your attendance by email or by calling 01536723956 and speaking to Sue Wood or Susanna Hogan. There are three remaining Open Hours for you to choose from - all run from 11am-12pm. Dates are:

  • Thursday 17th October 2019
  • Tuesday 26th November 2019
  • Monday 13th January 2020

The invite is for the full hour. You will have chance to hear a little about our school, meet the team, have a look around and ask any questions. The Exec-Head Teacher will also talk through the admissions process and how to apply to us - slightly different given our Academy status and our VA heritage.

The hour is intended for parents only and, whilst we don't seek to be awkward, we feel it would be easier for you to come without children in tow. That said, if it's impossible, we do understand.

The closing date for applications is 15th January 2020 (5pm)

.
