Crater Lake North Entrance February 24, 2017

Got lucky and showed up at Crater Lake North Entrance as the groomer was heading up. First tracks. No snow mobiles until I was on the way back down. It's a 9 mile ski up to the rim with lovely terrain like the Pumice Desert and upper meadows. This is a relatively unknown Oregon nordic gem. In spring when the crust is on, you can ski all over the upper slopes.

Route 128.
North Entrance trailhead.
Up, up. Rim is visible nine miles away.
Not a huge snow year. But this is Crater Lake.
The Pumice Desert. In spring you can crust cruise in all directions.
Looking in the rear view mirror for snow mobiles. None around.
Up on the rim. Windy and cold.
Until next time, Crater Lake.
