Hitler was a dictator. Dictators are leaders who have absolute power and they rule a nation by force. The first dictator was Italy's Benito Mussolini. Hitler lead the National Socialist Party which is also known as the Nazi Party. The Nazis believe that German people were superior to others.

The great depression hit Germany hard. Businesses failed, and millions of people lost their jobs. Hitler took advantage of people's fears to gain support, and he also used people's bitterness over the Versailles. His anti-Semitism hated the Jews, this would lead to unspeakable horrors. In a totalitarian State leaders crush all opposition and totally control all aspects of society. In addition to dominate in Germany, Hitler sought out to dominate other nations. He claimed that journey had a right to expand.
