The Halloween Party

BMS Halloween Party 2018

We had an excellent turnout at yesterday's Halloween Party. The students danced, played games, and enjoyed food with friends. A big thank you goes to the PTO for putting this together. Every year they seem to outdo themselves. We also want to the thank the NHS volunteers for facilitating the game stations and the Athens Dance Team for their wonderful rendition of Thriller. The staff and students had a blast. It was a night to remember!

Boyd Street Closure

The Boyd entrance to Baker Middle School & the IAE Project Progress

The Boyd entrance to Baker Middle School & the IAE project is well underway. Crews have been hard at work trying to meet the anticipated 2 week timeline. The street has been widened, the curbs are poured, and they will soon be installing the pedestrian walking path. We appreciate your patience and flexibility with allowing 10-15 minutes extra at drop off and pick up to accommodate the increase in traffic on Torpey.

This Week at Baker

The PAW Ticket Raffle

On the last Friday of every month, we host our Positive Acts Win (PAW) ticket raffle. Every student has the opportunity to earn a PAW ticket when they are observed engaging in a positive act by a staff member. A PAW ticket can be used to enter into our monthly raffle or to receive an item from the PTO Bobshop in the cafeteria. Students are allowed to put as many paw tickets as they want in the raffle and they are allowed to be selected more than once in the same raffle. There was a lot of excitement in the cafeteria and it was great to see students recognized and celebrated by their peers for positive behavior. This event is sponsored by the PTO and we appreciate their contribution to our character education program.

Red and Blue Pillar Activities

Mrs. Morgan's Physical Education 6 Class

Mrs. Morgan's Physical Education 6 classes, focused on the red pillar of attending to emotional and physical well being by performing yoga. Through yoga, students are asked to concentrate on what they can do, not what the person next to them can do. They are given the opportunity for self-awareness, and self-reflecting. They are reminded to be kind to themselves and embrace who they are and what they can do. They also learn that they are always a work in progress and they should strive to be their best.

Mr. Harnish's LS Social Studies Students

Students from around the world engaged in a mapping activity where they identified their home country and shared their global perspective. This helped set the stage for the students to actively engage in thinking both individually and collectively on issues with global implications. It was exciting to see students share their understanding of their place in the world, think and act as global citizens.

Athletics
