September | A Call to Prayer & Fasting

As a church family, we are together in the midst of an unprecedented disruption in our world that has left many feeling overwhelmed by fear, anxiety and confusion. In response, I believe God is calling us to enter into a specific season of 30 days of prayer and fasting together. We are desperate for God’s presence and power to enable us to be who He has called us to be in and through these days. Will you join us in a season of concentrated prayer from September 1st through the 30th? By August 25, we will have complete details and instructions available at abeaconofhope.org/septemberprayer. If we go before the Lord together with passion and purpose, we know He will meet us and help us.

-Pastor Adrian Mills

What’s the plan for worship for Sundays this fall?

Beginning Sunday, September 13, we are offering an inside worship option at 9:00am & an outside worship option at 10:30am. We will also continue to have online worship each week. At our inside worship service, we will be following suggested health and safety protocols by requiring everyone to wear masks and to maintain social distance. We invite you to consider how you feel most comfortable worshipping with us in these days and commit to join us.

Why offer both inside & outside worship options?

Like all families, our church is made up of people who face a wide variety of COVID-related challenges, from significant concerns to relatively very little. We’re offering both service options for now so that each person can find a worship experience that provides the most freedom to connect with the Lord - outside face-to-face, inside face-to-face and online. We want everyone to be able to make strong connection with God and each other during this time. We continually seek Him for direction and guidance. We expect, Lord willing, that we will eventually be back to “normal." For now, however, we’re fighting fear and the virus with flexibility.

What about the kiddos? (beginning September 13)

Our children's ministry will begin to open for ages 4-5th grade on Sunday mornings. For questions or to find out how you can help contact Pastor Julie!

Also, we plan to launch our fall activities for our middle and high school students with a Block Party outside, September 13 from 6-8pm. Pastor Olivia has been working hard to create a plan to offer ministry options for our students and families who want to engage this Fall. Questions? Contact Pastor Olivia!

We are incredibly grateful for the leadership of our church. From our Life Group leaders to our hospitality & technology teams (among many other teams), our teams of volunteers and leaders have helped to keep us connected as a church family (and to our community) in these days. In addition, our Church Board and finance committee members have helped us to navigate new territory and much uncertainty. In the midst of all this, you have made huge impacts through Need a Neighbor & Best Week Ever. As we continue to reach eastward, our East Rock leaders have continued to strategize and make new important connections in Eastern Rockingham County as we press forward towards our launch. We are blessed, grateful and excited to have the strong Godly leadership of Pastor Adrian!

At a special called meeting of the District Superintendent and Church Board on August 12, 2020, the Church Board voted to affirm the continuation of Pastor Adrian Mills as Lead Pastor for Harrisonburg First Church of the Nazarene for the next 4 years.
