  • At the age of 11, he joined a minor seminary where his teachers found him to be too lively. (1923)
  • When he was 16, he joined a major seminary and tried to become a Jesuit, but was denied. (1928)

Vocational Career

  • He became a sub-deacon when he was 22. (1934)
  • A sub-deacon is a minister of an order ranking below deacon. (Now largely obsolete in the Western church, the liturgical role has been taken by other ministers.)
  • Got ordained as a deacon on February 2, 1935
  • Got ordained as a priest on July 7, 1935 at St. Peter's Church of Belluno
  • In 1947, he graduated from the Georgian University in Rome with a doctorate in Sacred Theology
  • In 1950, he published his doctoral thesis (The origin of the human soul according to Antonio Rosmini)
  • In 1962, he was present for the opening of Vatican Council II in Rome
  • In 1969, he was named Patriarch of Venice by Pope Paul VI
  • Became Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church in 1973
  • In 1976, he published his novel Illustrissimi
  • In 1978, after Pope Paul VI died he went to the service in Rome
  • On August 26 , 1978, he became a pope
  • On September 28, 1978, he died from a heart attack in Apostolic Palace, Vatican City (being the only pope to have been a pope for only 33 days)
  • There are many conspiracy theories that he was murdered and did not have a heart attack
