John Boyne is an Irish novelist. His novels are published in over 50 languages. Boyne was born in Dublin, where he still lives.

About the Book!

The family relocates to the countryside where his father is assigned to take command a prison camp. A few days later, Bruno befriends another youth, strangely dressed in striped pajamas, named Shmuel who lives behind an electrified fence.

Themes of the Book!

Friendship; Friendship is one theme because without the friendship between the 2 boys, they would never have gotten into the situation that they did. They both died together because of their friendship.
Race; Race is a theme because this happened in Germany and Bruno's family is german. The dad is a nazi general and Bruno doesn't even know.


This book has achieved the Bisto Book of the Year.
