The southern Norwegian port of Stavanger is the home to one of Europe's most interesting Old Towns. Our ship docked right next to this Old Town section of Gamle Stavanger, with its cobbled streets and the narrow streets are lined with Europe's highest concentration of wooden buildings that date to the 17th and 18th centuries. Our walking tour started from this charming section of town and we walked through the main market square, down town district ending at the Petroleum Museum. Now, Stavanger is the key port for the North Sea offshore oil industry.
