Self-Reliance

“What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think. This rule...is harder because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it.” - “Self-Reliance,” Ralph Waldo Emerson.
In 2010 Demi Lovato went into rehab treatment. she self-harmed herself, had a eating disorder called "bulimia" ,drug/alcohol addictions and Bipolar disorder. When she went to rehab she thought "and i thought, oh great, now the world thinks I'm just another stereotype." Demi never thought she'd make it to the age of 21, but once she started to get better in rehab, in March 2012, she got better and healthier from her disorders. Her self reliance has stuck by her ever since she has overcome her issues, problems, etc. she has always been independent since she's been in the music industry, she doesn't let people get in the way with her self-reliance, especially her past behaviors. Demi has matured and improved on her self reliance. on the other hand just because of her past, others think they know her daily life and her duties, Demi does not let that get in her way because Demi knows her true self, what she's done, and most importantly who she is. In this modern example Demi has simple proven herself that she is not who she was before because she has done better for the best. This connects to transcendentalism because it is this a person who is expressing their true self , a person who has overcome her fears, and most importantly a person who has conquered everything in her life. Emerson would highly appreciate and respect the celebrity, he would enjoy her perspectives. Emerson will understand more of why she did what she did before, he will learn new perspectives and will know the importance of independence.

Nonconformity

“I say, beware of all enterprises that require new clothes…” Walden, Henry David Thoreau
Back in 2009 Nicki Minaj would have weird/exotic/provocative outfits, whenever she would perform, go to music awards etc. for example in this picture shown, this outfit is outrageous right? well think back I'm 2009, she would dress this crazy everywhere. in 2014 she started going for a more "natural" look, for example at the 2014 MTV movie awards she was dressed in an elegant black Alexander MCqueen dress that blew everyone's mind, but why would everyone be shocked? it is because she has changed her look and wanted to look more classy instead of wearing rainbow outfits. during that time, Nicki said “I went so far to the other side that there’s only one place to go from there. You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, ‘Hey guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing nothing will shock them even more.’” despite her exotic outfits, she has tried something new, in other words she has stepped out of her 'nonconformity.' Nicki didn't realize how much her outfits would have made an impact upon her, but the good thing is, she wan't afraid of change, and she didn't refuse to change, she's realized now, she likes her outfits now, than before, she does not want to look back.

Importance of Nature

“In the woods we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life - no disgrace, no calamity…” “Nature” Ralph Waldo Emerson
The ecosystem, animals, living organisms, oceans, deserts, bugs, gardens are the most important things in life and mostly nature. without these, the earth would be nothing, and boring. the importance of nature is to understand the beauty of nature, and what its significance is. Emerson's would understand why the ecosystem is part of nature, he will notice how similar the ecosystem and nature are both put together. This example is related to transcendentalism because it's relating to the quote because 'Nature' is relaxing and calm, and nature is the only thing that would be a stress reliever, examples like taking a walk in the park, going to the zoo, or going hiking, just simple activities like that will help you stay calm and relaxed, and Emerson would probably say the same thing, the importance of nature is to enjoy nature's beauty and to go explore nature.
