Managing in the Health and Fitness Industry Seminar One

In this weeks lecture we have looked at the evolution of the health and fitness industry. From the beginning of the 1980’s many more people decided to take part in physical activity and join a gym or fitness centre and gym membership started to grow.

Since this growth many facilities in the public, private and voluntary sector now offer a wide range of activities and sports for the public to take part in. The industry is still growing with a surge in affordable, low cost gyms with Pure Gym now dominating the market share.

.

For this weeks seminar you are to read the extract from week one on the module learnzone page and write 500 words summarising the main points of the growth of the industry. Please upload your answers through the turnitin link on week one of the module.

Think about the following key points in your discussion:

  • How have participation levels had an impact upon the growth of the health and fitness Industry?
  • What other factors may have influenced the growth of the health and fitness industry
  • What are the main reasons for the growth of commercial health and fitness chains?
