Signing Day at Apex High School 2-13-19

Apex High School opened the beginning of the spring sports season with Signing Day! Below are the players who have committed to colleges for next year. Congratulations to all of our seniors!

Omar McBride will be a member of Campbell University's track and field team next year.

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process? I’m trying to remember. I would say official visits.

What made you choose Campbell University over other schools? I liked it.

How’s it feel to finally be committed to a school? Well I committed let’s see, what month is it? A couple months ago. Now it feels like I’m just bored. I kind of miss official visits.

What are you most looking forward to in college? Track.

Christian Cechini will be playing lacrosse at the University of Tampa.

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process? Being able to visit a bunch of schools and find out what would really work for me as a student and an athlete.

What made you choose University of Tampa over other schools? The location is in the city and ten minutes away from the beach. The school is everything I want, and it’s in Florida.

How’s it feel to finally be committed to a school? It feels good. The long process is over, and now I can actually get ready for college.

What are you most looking forward to in college? I am looking forward to bettering myself and continuing to work hard.

Olivia Mason will be playing soccer at Meredith College.

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process? My favorite part was that I got a handwritten letter from Meredith College before I decided that I wanted to pursue an offer there. I was just thinking, “Wow, they really care.” My friend is also on the team there, and she just hyped it up all the time. The coach is super nice, and I actually knew the assistant coach from my club soccer team.

What made you choose Meredith over other schools? I definitely learn better in a small college environment. Meredith has always been such a tight-knit community, and everybody there is extremely nice and welcoming. Another thing they did for me was when I came for an official visit in the visitor parking lot they reserved a spot for me just for my tour--not even like “Oh, I know I am going here...” There was someone there to talk to me personally, and it was a much closer connection than that at bigger schools.

How’s it feel to finally be committed to a school? I honestly can’t wait to go to college. I am so excited to leave high school and start something new, and I am coming back from a torn ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) so I actually haven’t played soccer since September, and my first game back will be for Meredith. I am so excited!

Winter Hardison will be playing lacrosse at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

What was your favorite part of the recruiting process? Getting it finished honestly, it’s kind of nerve-wracking.

What made you choose Wesleyan over other schools? I visited multiple times, the campus looks very good, and I felt like I was at home.

How’s it feel to finally be committed to a school? Very great. I am a lot less stressed now that it’s over.

What are you most looking forward to in college? Being on the team and starting.
