United Nations: Children Aiyanna S.

What is the mission of the United Nations?

The main mission of the United Nations is to maintain world peace, develop good relations between countries, promote cooperation in solving the world's problems, and encourage a respect for human rights.

Declaration of the Rights of the Child

This was approved by the United Nations General Assembly. It illustrated the rights of the children. The rights were protection, education, health care, good nutrition, and shelter.

Education

The United Nations has an organization named the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) that focuses on explaining the international legal obligations for the right to education.

Education is a human right that should not have any restrictions, especially for children. Education promotes individual freedom and empowerment. It allows us to have control. Children should be able to receive an education without there being an issue, but millions of children are deprived of this human right because of poverty.

How is the UNESCO helping?

They are developing and promoting the right of every person to enjoy access to a good education. The UNESCO is responsible for initiating majority of the international instruments that concerns education. This has been happening since the end of the second World War.

Education is a powerful tool by which economically and socially marginalized adults and children can lift themselves out of poverty and participate fully as citizens.
