Message from Dr. Obado

What a great game on Friday with Boo Bowl and Homecoming! Shout out to junior Kaitlyn McKneely and seniors Lilly Rockwell and Zack Miller for representing the Escadrille on the homecoming court on Friday. Check our our 2020 Show Trailer created by Escadrille alumni and former Band Council President Chris Cammarata by clicking the video above. Looking forward to our next game - a district showdown with Denton Guyer on November 13th!

  • Arda Calisir, tenor saxophone
  • Lucas Jabara, trumpet
  • Melanie Schwartz, trumpet
  • Ganesh Somashekhar, trumpet

A Message to our At-Home Only Students

Our staff understands there are frustrations in assignments and frustrations that band isn't as engaging as it is live and in-person. Please know that when we designed our curriculum in the summer, it was designed to reflect the same curriculum as the In-Person students. As we have discovered, an ensemble/band curriculum is a live and in-person activity that cannot be simulated virtually. That said, please continue doing your asynchronous assignments and alternative assignments to finish off the semester. These are the exact same things our in-person students are doing and an appropriate way to assess skills we are doing at AHS/LFC. We will change things up in January to make a more effective curriculum for our virtual students.

Starting in January 2021, we will be providing our virtual students a completely separate curriculum for our At-Home students. We want to create a platform that is MORE ENGAGING & MORE ENJOYABLE. Ensemble skills cannot be duplicated at home and ensemble assignments just don't make a lot of the same connections you can live and in-person. In January, virtual students will be grouped by ability level and will have a virtual only teacher. The curriculum will continue technique/musical development, but will focus on the individual as a player and as a listener with a dedicated teacher for each online class. We will work on ensemble skills from a virtual sense through two, three, or four part music that can be sequenced together with technology rather than following in-person students over spotty internet connections with low-fidelity audio quality you cannot adjust on your own. The final outcome of our virtual students next semester will be to train the independency of our virtual students in an engaging platform that will develop their technique so when we are all back to being live and in-person they can enjoy making music together again at the highest level. The intent is to have a 1st period, 2nd/5th period, and 8th period virtual course based on the level of students in those classes. We will be able to design a more accurate curriculum once we know what students are at-home only or what students come to in-person band classes for Q3. All students will be able to choose their status during the Dec 1-8 AISD choice window.

Region 25 UIL Marching Contest - Sat. Nov. 14

  • The UIL Marching Contest is REQUIRED for all marching band students.
  • The band will provide Chick-Fil-A for all students. Please fill out the Dietary Questionnaire Form if you have not done so already.
  • UIL will be at Kimbrough Stadium in Murphy (Plano ISD). After rehearsal and loading, students have a choice of taking the bus or riding to Kimbrough Stadium with their parents (no student drivers).
  • If your parents are driving, you must submit the "Alternate Means of Travel Form" to a director at a marching band rehearsal or email to susan.fulk@allenisd.org by Thursday, Nov. 12. Students will be required to ride the bus if form is not turned in by Nov. 12.

Fall Exams & Spring Semester Auditions

FALL EXAMS: All band students will have two parts to their Fall Exam. 50% of their exam grade will be based on their audition submission (see below for details). The other 50% will be based on each individual band class's activity on their exam day (Spring 2021 music reading, Sight-Reading, etc). Click HERE for the AHS/LFC/STEAM Exam Schedule.

AUDITIONS: All In-Person & At-Home students will submit an audition on Flipgrid for Spring Semester Band auditions. Q3 At-Home students will submit their audition for their appropriate Virtual Instrumental (Band) Music Class while Q3 In-Person students will submit their audition for their appropriate band ensemble. The audition will consist of both 9th Grade All-Region Band Audition Cuts.

GRADING/AUDITION RUBRIC: We will have two separate rubrics when directors assess auditions. The exam rubric will grade students based on TEKS mastery. The audition rubric will place students in proper in-person and virtual classes based on comprehensive performance elements beyond TEKS mastery. Rubrics will be released on 11/16.

December Concerts

Please see the schedule below for our December concerts. Each student will be able to have two guests for limited seating and distanced spacing inside the Performing Arts Center. All concerts will be videoed and shared on each student's CANVAS page. We are asking that all patrons come at the beginning of the concert and stay for the entire concert. There will only be two bands per concert. More information will be provided by our Performing Arts Staff.

Please note that we will not issue tuxedos and dresses for students this year. All students are required to wear all solid black for each concert. If you do not have solid black shirt, pants, skirt (appropriate length), etc. you have the time to purchase the proper attire.

All live concerts will be required for In-Person & At-Home/In-Person Band students. At-Home students will record the concert music on Flipgrid for their performance grade in lieu of performing in person.

Individual directors may schedule before or after school rehearsals starting on November 16th. They will communicate with their bands directly regarding before/after school rehearsals.

We have a home football game scheduled the Friday of our Thanksgiving break. Our call time will be 12:30pm for a 2:00pm game. While this is a regular season game (and our Senior Game), we understand that there may be some family travel circumstances that may require an absence.

Because this game is still required, we will excuse students that have filed out the excused absence request form by Friday, November 6.

Playoff Football Info

The Allen Escadrille will support our team and community as we go into the playoff season. The first playoff game (usually at home) will be required for the entire marching band.
