Hello, World!

App Dive

Which apps are easy to use and seem to "just work"?

  1. WhatsApp
  2. Youtube
  3. Uber
  4. Facebook
  5. Spotify

When I did the list, I decided to list them according to how easy is to use its primary function, because thay have a lot of functions that I do not use or I do not know how to use, so I prefer a simple design that shows you how to do the primary function of the app, for example, if you want to watch a video just click right here, and then the video is displayed

But WHY?

First App

Problem Hunters

Well, right now, my apps are not going to be "disruptive", the apps that I thought during that Idea Storm were not suppose to do something great, they are alternatives to solve simple problems or to make life a little easier, if you want to search for a recipe, to do schedule, etc.

FUNCTIONS

Ideas Seeking Solutions

App Name: MeetU

Problem: for those who want to make friends but have a hard time to.

My app “MeetU” will make a person able to communicate with people that are nearby, talking, meeting and socializing.

Feature Smashing

Apple iOS devices, like iPhone and iPad, are equipped with a variety of important hardware features. My app can use some of these, for example:

  • GPS: Detect where the user is, so other users can search them, also it helps us to connect the users with others.
  • Camera: Take photos or video and save them to the image roll. People take photos from their environment.
  • Touchscreen: To have a nice interface, people can interact easily and will be able to communicate without problems.

Do Your Research

Top three competitors:

  1. Badoo: It is slow, bad optimization, people can make fake profiles easily, so we need to have a way to verify if the people that create an account are really them and not impostors
  2. MeetMe: Good app, but most of the people are from the United States, so we need to have a good campaign that promotes the diversity. The customer support is good.
  3. Chatous: Problems, it is hard to find people with your same interests, it has some bugs, you have to pay to choose the person you want to talk, it is random, so you do not have an option to decide if you want a random person or someone with your same interests.

Parameters and Results

Designer Apps

  • Clarity: Text must be legible at every size, icons are precise and lucid, adornments are subtle and appropriate.
  • Deference: Nice interface help people understand and interact with content while never competing with it.
  • Depth: Distinct visual layers and realistic motion convey hierarchy, impart vitality, and facilitate understanding.
  • Aesthetic Integrity: The appearance must be captivating, it promotes discovery, fun, and it also is secure.
  • User Control: The app can provide suggestions but it will never do something that the user does not want.
  • Consistency: Text and icons must be original, but they must be simple, so users can understand and recognize them easily.

Making decisions

First Impressions

AN APPEALING ICON - "Duolingo", the color green is related to balance, harmony and growth, perfect for a language teaching tool, also the nice and cartoonish owl gives the icon something that makes you think it is a friendly app.

GET RIGHT INTO THE ACTION - "Youtube", you do not need to create an account immediately, you open the app and then with one tap you are watching a video.

INITIAL ONBOARDING/TUTORIAL - "Airbnb", when you open the app, the app informs you about what you can do using it. Then after that, you log in, and in a blink of an eye you are discovering places to stay.
