I remember it like it was yesterday. It was one of my greatest accomplishments that I have ever done. While I was only 12 or 13 it was still one of the most impressive things I have ever done up to that point. It was the championship game in a tournament in Hudson Falls against the best team, the SGF bulldogs.
Me a few years ago in my uniform.
The game was one of the closet games we've ever played, coming down to the last inning. We were selected as the home team which meant we got the last at bats. The score was 3-2 in favor of the other team, which meant we had to score at least one run to stay in the game. I was going to be battering third, so I would definitely be facing their best pitcher. The pressure was on.
After the first two batters got on base, it was finally my turn to hit. After pep talks with my brother and mother, I knew what I had to: just get a base hit to score the tying run. Tons of emotions were coursing through my body, I was nervous, anxious, and excited at the same time. When the first pitch came, I jumped at it and I felt I had made solid contact. As my head came up I saw the ball heading up and up, and I knew then that I had hit it out of the park. As a trotted around the bases, I couldn't stop smiling. When I rounded third base, my team was waiting for me in excitement and when I reached home late the surrounded me in a mosh pit. And that was my big hit.
