In the story "Beloved" it explains what Sethe goes through to be free from slavery and also how she has to kill her daughter just to save Beloved from being a slave. Beloved later starts to haunt Sweet Home as she was pleased by Beloved her to sons were not and ran away at a young age. She also finds love when she meets Paul D and sees how he is really nice to her and can also relate to Sethe's life.
