Thanksgiving Stafford/jelstrom-Style

"Let's cook gourmet for Thanksgiving!"

And we did. We met, we laughed, we planned. We marveled at how much we shared similar tastes. We researched recipes. We made a menu. We shopped. We shopped as far away as Dekalb, Georgia. We texted and emailed. (And we splurged.)

We gathered (at the Jelstroms) so excited! And we cooked—most of the afternoon. We laughed, talked, discovered new things. We cooked with wine—and sometimes we put it in the food! We played with fire (sort of). And we rejoiced at the abundance we enjoy in this country and in our homes, in the talents we've been given and the resources we enjoy.

We were very excited about our menu.
We started with fresh ingredients and cooked everything from scratch.

Before and after:

Exquisite beef tenderloin
Elegant duck...
...with tender fingerling potatoes.
And crab-stuffed Portobello mushrooms for our appetizer.

(Hungry yet?)

And a very busy "Jelstrom salad" with freshly-made blue cheese dressing.

And very colorful hot vegetables.
Our place settings used china, silver and linens from two past generations—the china is probably 100 years old, yet still looks classic and elegant.
Someone's hungry....

Bon Appetit!

Feasted on excellent food before we feasted on dessert and what God's Word has to say about being "satisfied."

I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. .

The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; those who seek Him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever! All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, and all the families of the nations will worship before You.

The eyes of all look to You, And You give them their food in due time. You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all His ways and kind in all His deeds. The Lord is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth.

Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men! For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

How blessed is the one whom You choose and bring near to You To dwell in Your courts. We will be satisfied with the goodness of Your house, Your holy temple.

Have both!—Chocolate-Strawberry Trifle AND Creme Brûlée!

We ate (and drank) and were richly satisfied. It's not for every Thanksgiving but we made a memory!

Give thanks for everything... including the dishwasher!

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good. His love is everlasting.
