Journey of the Soul maggie wayman

Thesis: The Musical Hamilton,The book Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse  and the epic poem The Odyssey all circle around the theme that is shown in Paulo Coelho's The Alchemist, that when achieving your personal legend one must follow their dreams, listen to their hearts and be willing to sacrifice.

The Alchemist: "'... everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives." (Coelho 24)

Commentary: The Musical Hamilton shows the life of Alexander Hamilton and in this song Hamilton is singing about he overcame all his advertises and took control his life. It shows that Hamilton was willing to dream and achieve all he wanted to.

The Alchemist: "' Because, wherever your heart is, this is where you'll find your treasure." (Coelho 132)

Detail : " Your heart is always in the right place. Listen to it" (Riordan 105)

Commentary: In the Titan's Curse Percy Jackson is goes on a quest to save Annabeth even though he wasn't chosen to be part of it. Percy calls his mother to see if he can stay with her but she tells him to follow heart and go after her.

The Alchemist: "' My heart is a traitor,' the boy said to the alchemist, when they had paused to rest the horses.' it doesn't want me to go on.' '"that makes sense," the alchemist answered " Naturally it's afraid that in pursuing your dreams you might lose everything you've won"' (Coelho 133)

Detail : "... but in the daytime, sitting on the rocks and sands, with tears and groans and griefs racking his heart, he watched the barren sea and poured forth tears." ( Homer 48)

Commentary: This quote shows how much Odysseus was suffering by being away from his family for twenty years. He was missing his wife Penelope and his son which he didn't see grow up, but through all of his suffering he was able to achieve his personal legend.

Conclusion: The musical Hamilton, the book Percy Jackson and the Titan's Curse, and the epic poem "The Odyssey" show the same themes that Paulo Colheo's The Alchemist does that when achieving your personal legend you must be willing to sacrifice, listen to your heart and follow your dreams.
