Lighting up Buckhorn Court 'TIS THE SEASON IN MURRAYVILLE

In the Kings Grant area of Wilmington the "A&K Christmas House" canceled their annual light display – the owner said it draws up to 6,500 visitors every Christmas – because of damages from a tree falling on its roof.
Further north of Wilmington in Murrayville, the residents of Buckhorn Court were preparing their homes for the annual flow of December traffic to see the lights on their cul-de-sac. Resident Arnold Carr said the tree pictured was eight-feet tall when he first decorated it 22 years ago.

"People come see the lights here all the way to 12 o’clock at night. It’s every night constantly, during the week, weekends. Candles lit up on the cul-de-sac, fire pits on the driveways." –Israel Rodriguez

Neighbors Arnold Carr, left, and Israel Rodriguez have spearheaded efforts to light up the cul-de-sac. Everyone on the street pitched in for a boon to put up lights on roofs and large trees. "It kind of jumped on us after the hurricane with clean-up mode, then all of the sudden, ‘Okay it’s time to put Christmas lights up,'" Carr said.

"On good nights we get 300 to 400 cars in here. Christmas Eve is a big night. We got a long weekend before Christmas this year, so we’ll do the street lumineers for two to three days in a row. And that lights up everything and really draws traffic in." –Arnold Carr

"I love it, the people are friendly here – it’s one of a kind. During the hurricane, people got together, paddle-boarded on the flooded cul-de-sac, grills were out, you name it." –Israel Rodriguez

A plane passes over Buckhorn Court on its approach to Wilmington International Airport.
For Eric Young, it means a lot to see everyone on the street come together each Christmas to put on a show for the residents of Wilmington.

"We all pitch in, we help each other out, we get it all lit up, and we like to sit around and see everyone in Wilmington being able to drive through and enjoy the lights. You don’t find too many places where pretty much every house on a street like this lights up." –Eric Young
