Georgia- Studio Art

September

So far in the Start of Art Studio I we have been developing skills to make us better artists. Skills we have been learning are things such as shading, how to look at a picture and draw lined not things, and also how to take things in the 3D world and Flatten them. We also created original art with our two hands interacting, allowing us to choose a specific creative pose that meant something to us.

October

Lately we have been exploring and developing many new skills. Some things seen in the picture above that we have been doing lately were the grid self portrait, pinch pot sgraffito, negative space painting, and the skull. In all three of these I have taken risks and have just gone for it. I also Collaborated a lot with people at my table and around my table. One of the things we have learned glaze our pottery and how many times to put one the glaze and also how to keep the coats even. After glazing aur greenware which is when the pottery has not been kilned and then we did sgraffito on them. With the sgraffito we got to create original art and had lots of freedom. For the grid self portrait we developed how to look at a photo/ parts of a photo and draw it on paper. Alo for the negative space we looked at a photo and instead of looking at the objects w looked at what was not there.

November

In this unit we did a water color boot camp to learn how to do different techniques and how to do powerful and confident strokes. Then with the practice we did, we put it back into our paintings. I took a risk by doing a tie dye watercolor painting because I have never done something like that but I was very pleased with the way it turned out and my risk payed off. We also did the notan which we cut the white sticker part and flipped it to be on the black side which was very cool and a good technique to learn for art, also being able to know how to do the opposites and balance out the sides nicely is important too. A lot with the notan too was collaboration with others to get the ideas flowing but also observing what others did because it helps you learn techniques that you may not have thought of.

December

I researched and did my art in the style of Steven Schuman. Throughout this project I developed skills like how to make different strokes, and how to work through hard parts. There definitely was lots of problem solving skills put into this project, for example the artwork was so much smaller than my canvis making me have to enlarge it and make it fit. Also at some points it was a struggle because my painting seemed to through lots of rough patches before it started to look better. All together though I feel like I Learned alot about many artists and how to paint with acrylics and how to take risks and try new thing I had never before.

January

These three where my first attempts for my prints.

During the block printing unit I developed skills like how to carve, and how to make a print with my block print, ink, and brayer. I took risk and really tried to create block prints that I thought really expressed me and were something I could be proud of. I think that I really improved from where I started (above) to where I ended. I also really enjoyed this unit because we got to choose what we made and could put a lot of creativity into our work.

Febuary

Doing one and two point perspective is an important learning experience when you develop skills to be able to draw things according to horizon line and vanishing point. These skills help to make our art work look more accurate to real life. We also observed others artwork and collaborated with others to get ideas and also to help us better understand this unit and how to make our art the best possible. I feel that I took a risk trying to make my final artwork two point perspective because it was much harder but I am really happy with how my city turned out and honestly I wish my city was real so I could go there.

MARCH

During this unit we did both calligraphy and embroidery. We developed many new skills like how to handle the pen for calligraphy and make my calligraphy smooth and pretty. For my art I did my favorite quote, but then with a thicker pen I wrote my favorite word and tested different patterns. I also collaborated with people to come up with different things to write. We also did embroidery where I make a hot air balloon as my tester and did the different stitches within the balloon. Throughout this unit I really enjoyed the colorfulness of the floss and how you can make pretty much anything and how there are many different stitches that will allow your art to turn out how you want it to. I am also working on another embroidery and hopefully I will finish that soon and hopefully will be in my next blog post.

April

I believe most of my colored pencil hand qualifies as a personal mandala. I feel like center where there really is no pattern does not count but around the edge where there are patterns makes I partially qualify as a mondala. I also really enjoyed the colored pencil project because I felt like I really developed skills when using colored pencil, and also was unable to incorporate that into my art and make it have unique shadings and darkness and lightness. Also during the month of March I did my first paper mache mask ever. I really enjoyed it because I got to learn how the whole process worked and got to feel like I experienced the hole molding process. I also really enjoyed painting it with freedom and just makinging my art look unique. There was also a large amount of communication during this process because it took me a little more time to figure out what to paint. I feel like the options are not limited for making paper mache and that it is up to the artist. One thing I would be interested in doing would be paper macheing a balloon. I think next time I really would not do much different since I enjoyed this project, but maybe paint the background because I kept accidentally smudging the paint but it was really hard to cover up those mistakes with paint so I had to put paper mache over it. The last set of pictures that can be seen above are my knote drawings. In this I took risks by using different drawing materials I do not usually use, and also tried to do many different angles. All together I feel that most of them turned out good.

Final

Throughout the past few months we have developed skills and used new materials to create unique artwork. At the end of the year we created a lot of original art and had a lot of choice throughout especially the month of May. Some of the artwork that I was interested in exploring or exploring more were the scratch art, my acrylic painting, and tie dye. We also as a class explored mindfulness through sharpie doodling and did watercolor painting of candy using realism. I definitely felt that throughout the past few months that communication between me and my peers for inspiration and opinions on art work or what we should do for our next art work. I definitely felt that I took some risks by using new materials and experimenting. I also reflected on my past artwork and figured out what I felt went well and were I wanted to experiment more with and I chose to expand will my acrylic paintings, but I also went in other ways so that I gained many new skills.

I feel that I have gained a better understanding of the artistic behaviors and I feel that all of them have been used throughout the year. Some though I feel that I have used more than others like taking risks and developing skills more than global awareness but I still feel that I used them all. I would definitely feel that I got the opportunity to demonstrate the artistic behaviors through the various projects that the class did like for global awareness which I feel was not the main behavior I used I would definitely say when we recreated or based a painting off a famous painter we used global awareness.

One of my favorite activities was when we did the activity with notan. I wish I had more time to work on it, but I really enjoyed it because it was calming and there was a lot of creativity that went into it. Also even though we had to do the unit I still felt that we had a lot of freedom to experiment with this project. I would say I developed the most from doing the boot camps because I could take those skills and put it into may art but also keep those for later.

I really enjoyed this class, but the only thing I would change would be for us to have a little more freedom with our art. At points we had very specific and similar art and I feel that that does not express us as artists. Otherwise I enjoyed the class. I liked how we got to work with many different materials.

I was really proud of my watercolor elephant. For me it turned out great and was just happy to paint because it was so colorful. I liked this personally because it reminded me of being a little kid and looking forward to going to the zoo or seeing a rainbow, and this is like a combination of both. For this course, my feedback would be that I enjoyed it. I loved being with my friends and doing something that really made me happy during the school day. Also, I didn't have to do the same thing everyday and that was nice to have to look forward to.

Thanks for a great year!
