CSCSHC Summer Enrichment Programs 2020

The school district is proud to announce a full slate of exciting learning opportunities through our 2020 Summer Enrichment Camps. The Summer Enrichment Program offers camps covering a multitude of subjects for students in grades K-8 during the 2020-21 school year.

Dates and times for our camps are included in each camp's description and on the registration form linked above. All camps are held at New Palestine Intermediate School. NOTE: You must submit payment through the SchoolPay form (included in the registration form) before you click submit on your registration form.

YMCA Before/After Care: The YMCA will be offering their day camps every day during the summer except during the week of July 4th. This is similar to the before and after-school care offered by the YMCA during the school year. This childcare opportunity includes weeks where CSCSHC isn't running Summer Enrichment.

Parents will have the opportunity to use the YMCA care before or after our Summer Enrichment camps to make a full day of child care for their students. Additional information about YMCA Summer Day Camps will be available soon.

Camp Brochure: Below you will find a list and brief description of all CSCSHC Summer Enrichment Camps. Grades listed next to the camp are the grades students will be in for 2020-21. In order to guarantee your child is enrolled in the camp of their choosing, please complete registration before May 22, 2020. The cost of all camps (excluding Camp Invention) is $120. Please see our camp offerings below, which are listed in chronological order.

Camp Invention – June 8-12, 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. K through 6th-graders can attend as campers. 7th-9th-graders can attend as Counselors In Training. - Camp Invention is a nationwide STEM camp. STEM is a curriculum based in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The curriculum provided is rich with hands-on science experiments and engineering opportunities. The backward design and understanding of prototypes is key in the Camp Invention experience. To register for Camp Invention, you must fill out the registration form here. NOTE: This form is different from the registration form for the other camps. If you wish to only register for Camp Invention, please do not fill out the registration form linked at the top of this page. The cost of Camp Invention is $235.

Camp Invention

Block, Paper, Scissors Art CampJune 15-19, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. For grades K-8 OR 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.  Students engage in a variety of visual art activities involving the use of various media in two, three, or four dimensions. They will also learn about art games and theatre games that engage their creative thinking skills. The emphasis of the camp is on artistic problem posing and artistic problem solving. At Blocks, Paper, Scissors Camp, children are real artists!

Robotics – (Beginner) June 15-19, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. For 3rd-8th graders. (Intermediate) June 22-26, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. For 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. During the camp, students will build a working robot that will be ready to compete in a competition on the final day of camp. Students are given a task that their robot should be able to accomplish. They then work together to start building their robot. This course teaches STEM-based curriculum, problem-solving skills, and social skills.

2017 Robotics Camp

Cooking Camp - June 1-5, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. For 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. This camp is an opportunity for students to learn about the benefits of eating healthy, while learning how to cook for themselves. Students will be able to see how math, science, reading, and following directions can be used in real life.

Girls Who Code - July 13-17, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. For 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. Girls Who Code is a national organization with the goal of supporting and increasing the number of women in computer science. This camp is designed to build confidence in girls though opportunities to learn and use coding and other computer science concepts in an environment where they feel supported and enabled to do their best. The projects that they create are based around real world problems that they are passionate about finding a solution for.

Beat the Summer Slide - July 20-24, 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. For 5th & 6th grades. Incoming 5th and 6th-graders will participate in academic skill development to help prepare them for the upcoming school year. Students will have a variety of lessons in reading, math, and writing to help get them back into the school year frame of mind. They will also have the opportunity to learn the layout of the building and work on their locker combinations. We will also discuss how to navigate new social situations in which students may find themselves. Our NPI staff believes this camp will benefit students by helping them overcome any anxiety they may have about the start of a new school year. Students will also have the opportunity to get re-focused on academics over the summer.

Running Club Camp - June 1-5, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. For 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. The camp will include strength, cardio, and general fitness activities. We will discuss proper form, stretching, and training. We will also discuss general healthy life habits. Students will leave this camp with skills to help them form healthy life habits that they can use for the rest of their lives.

Young Performers Camp - June 22-26, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. For 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Students participating in this camp will learn a set of songs to be performed at the end of the camp. In addition to rehearsing for a performance, students would also receive instruction in vocal production, realizing rhythms, and reading notation. Young Performers provides a creative performance experience for students with the goal of creating more interest in the district's fine arts programs during the school year.
