ROCHESTER, NY (April 27, 2017): The Monroe CC (9-4) men’s lacrosse team won their quarter final game against Finger Lakes CC, 12 to 10. Monroe CC will move on to the next round to play #2 Genesee CC on Saturday, April 29th at 2:30pm.

The Tribunes were led by sophomores Jake Moss (Wayne), Hudson Weil ( Williamsville East) , and Freshman Austin Jobson (Victor) who scored three goals each. Moss and Weil also had two assists and Jobson dished out one assist. Sophomore David Lehman (Webster Schroeder) scored two goals and had two helpers on the day and was instrumental with his riding and getting the ball back for the Tribunes. Freshmen Brandon Barnhart (Greece Arcadia) continued his hot streak with another goal against the Lakers. Freshman Nick Kallio (Livonia) had one assist. Goalie Mark Campbell (Waterloo) had eleven saves in cage for the Tribunes.

Monroe CC was able to get on the scoreboard, nine minutes into the game with a man-up goal from Austin Jobson (with a feed from Moss). Two minutes later, the Tribunes were up 2-0 with a goal from Weil (with a feed from Lehman). The Lakers scored with less than a minute left in the quarter to make the score 2 to 1 after one quarter of action.

Finger Lakes got the first score of the second quarter, bringing the game to a 2-2 tie. But the Tribunes took the lead again with another goal from Jobson (assisted by Lehman). After the Tribunes goal, the Lakers scored two quick goals to take the lead. Monroe was able to tie the game with a goal from Barnhard (assisted by Jobson). Goalie Mark Campbell and the Tribunes defense were able to keep the Lakers from scoring again to keep the game tied at 4, heading into the half.

The Tribunes started the third quarter on a four goal run in a span of five minutes, bringing the score to 8 to 4. The Lakers were able to get a man-up goal to bring the lead back to three for the Tribunes. Hudson Weil and Jake Moss scored two goals to close out the third quarter, bringing the Tribunes led to 10 to 6 heading into the fourth quarter.
The Lakers wouldn’t give up as they scored early in the fourth to bring the lead for the Tribunes down to three before Moss scored his third of the day. The Lakers were able to score another three goals before the Tribunes answered with one minute left. It was an exciting game and both teams played extremely well.

The Tribunes will travel to host Onondaga CC on Saturday, April 29th to play #2 Genesee CC at 2:30pm. Winner gets an automatic bid into the Nationals.
