As I’ve grown older, it feels as though that full commitment to belief and faith in God has dissipated; moreover, a society which once waged war for each others’ Gods has now been the most unbelieving society that it has ever been. Why is this?
As time has progressed, so has the prominent beliefs of the commoner. As scientific research has developed, new beliefs have come about and are being accepted by the majority of society. Yet there are still divisions of Christianity and churches that oppose many of these views. Unprogressive Christian churches would benefit from modifying their beliefs in order to advance with society.
78% of adults who do not affiliate with a religion were brought up in a religious household. 50% of this population claim science to be their reason for lack of faith.

The Journal of Homosexuality published an article about integration of sexuality into religion, specifically homosexuality. Author Glenn Wagner discusses how the majority of the homosexual community felt segregated or hated by established churches. In the polled homosexual community, nearly 50% of the participants felt they had to no longer endorse their religion in order to accept their sexuality. In response to this, over 7500 churches have formed that accept homosexuals. There has been reform on other church beliefs that accept gay marriage.
There are many positive impacts that religious organizations have on the individual and a community. This can be through a platform for volunteer work, the congregation of people at Sunday mass as a means to build stronger relationships throughout the community, or the mindset change of a drug addict to quit injecting because he feels his God doesn’t believe that is right.
The churches that are able to advance will be more loving to all people, more aware of social change, and more cognizant of the new developments within scientific discovery. The church may believe that by conforming these certain ideas that it may ruin the authenticity or traditionality. The people that believe this believe that religion is almighty. Religion is correct. Religion is the answer, so why would the answer have to change due to what other people are doing, whom of which do not even believe in the true religion? The answer to that is that religion should not be the sought after answer. It should be a moral guide in the spread of positivity and acceptance; if that means having to change the way things are viewed, evolution and homosexuality for example, then it should be looked at as well worth it.
