Imani M. Cheers, Ph.D. Digital Storyteller & EDUCATOR

Reading news since 1980...
Producing digital stories since 2001...
Malawi, 2013 and Zambia, 2015

I have over 15 years of professional international and domestic multimedia experience including producing and writing for the PBS NewsHour and Newsweek.com.

Since fall 2014 I have been a regular media expert guest on CCTV America and CTV Canada discussing minority representational inclusion in the media, American politics, race relations and pop culture.

Educator

A proponent of constructivist pedagogy, and an advocate of project-based learning, my students learn by actively participating in their education.

As the instructor, my teaching focuses on the processes and effects of mediated communication as well as actively engaging students outside their comfort zones and the classroom.

As an educator my goals are to create and integrate a hybrid of multiple-skills into a research paradigm that examines the synergy between teaching, my ongoing visual research and how my creative work and ideas can educate, motivate, influence and inspire students to reach their full potential.

Data Visualization
Inspired by a class assignment to watch Ava DuVernay's documentary, 13th, students created infographics on issues they were passionate about.
