Handcrafts with a Story

Amidst poverty in a Middle Eastern village, a girl named Bayan was born into a growing family. Bayan has a genetic disease that does not allow her to grow. Even though she was 10 when we met her, Bayan was the size of an infant. Through our ministry's training, Bayan's mother gracefully made cross stitch art, as featured here, and earned much needed income.

We are also teaching cross stitch to the deaf in the Arab world (or their family members) and buying these handcrafts from them.

Your donations and prayers help us to continue in our outreach of hope to the hidden and hurting globally. Thank you for your tax-deductible donations!

MEANING OF THE HANDWOVEN BOOKMARKS & PURSES

Handcrafts made by the deaf (or their family members) in the Arab world.

The word in Arabic is “Kooteeba” which means, “It was written.” The letters make an acrostic for the Gospel message as seen below in the acrostic “WORD”.

From Creation to the New Creation

Word: God created the universe with His speech, His infinite “Word” (Psalm 33:6), and by His “Spirit” (Genesis 1:2; Psalm 33:6). He created, loved, and spent time with mankind. Then sin entered the world and messed everything up – our relationship with God and our relationships with one another were destroyed. So, after the time of Abraham and after the time of David, God sent His infinite Word again to redeem us.

Jesus is God’s infinite “Word” that “became flesh” (John 1:1-14). At Jesus’ baptism, it says that “…the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove…” (Luke 3:22a, NIV). Thus, God sent His Word and His Spirit again to start a “new creation” (cf. Isaiah 57:17, 25 with Isaiah 11:1, 2, 6).

Offering: Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11, New International Version).

Some days before His death on a cross, Jesus was at a house with His disciples. “…While He was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume made from essence of nard. She broke open the jar and poured the perfume over His head. Some of those at the table were indignant. “Why waste such expensive perfume?” they asked.

But Jesus replied, ‘Leave her alone. Why criticize her for doing such a good thing to me? She has done what she could and has anointed my body for burial ahead of time’” (Mark 14:3a, 4, 6, 8, NLT).

Risen: Three days after dying as an offering of atonement for our sins, Jesus, the infinite Word of God, rose from the grave.

Jesus taught, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying” (John 11:25, New Living Translation). God has said, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5a, English Standard Version), and “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17, English Standard Version).

Decide: Do you want Jesus to forgive your sins? If your decision is yes, pray with me.

Lord, thank you for sending Jesus, Your eternal Word, to redeem us. Thank you that You didn’t leave us in brokenness. You said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16, NIV).

Jesus, I believe in You, that You are the Son, the infinite “Word of God” that created me for fellowship.

I believe You are “The Good Shepherd” who is the perfect offering, the atoning sacrifice that covers each of my sins. I confess each of my sins to You and ask for forgiveness. Thank you for Your forgiveness for each of my sins. I turn away from sin and turn towards You.

I believe that You rose from the grave and are, “the resurrection and the life.” Jesus, I believe Your promise that with You I, “will live, even after dying.” Thank you for Your forgiveness and for giving me “eternal life” that I might fellowship with You forever.

Lord, thank you for the gift of Your Spirit that now “dwells in” me (1 Corinthians 3:16b, English Standard Version), and who helps me to fellowship with you daily. Help me to love others as You have loved me. Help me to share Your message of hope with others. Amen.
