Boomer Bloodstock Season Recap for 2017/2018

Starting with a Horse of the Year and ending with a U.S. stakes winner, 2017/18 was a banner season for Boomer Bloodstock.

In all, Boomer Bloodstock horses won over 50 races around the world during 2017/2018, including six individual 2-year-old winners in Australia.

Named 2016/2017 Western Australia Horse of the Year in August, Scales of Justice started the season well, finishing 2nd in the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis in Victoria although unfortunately missed the latter half the season through injury. We're looking forward to him hitting the track and back his best form this season.

Fellow Boomer purchase and stablemate Epic Grey also made his mark. The 3-year-old finished a close second in his first start before winning two straight races at Belmont. After a 2nd in the Listed Belgravia Stakes, he took out the Magic Millions Western Australia 3YO Trophy at Pinjarra. Epic Grey looks ready to roll this season, and will resume in the coming weeks.

With a Promise added another stakes win to her resume in 2017/18, winning the Listed Tails Stakes. The daughter of I Am Invincible was a $26,000 purchase and has won over $300,000 since her purchase at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

In the United States, Double Touch flew the Boomer flag when winning the Listed Wickerr Stakes in late July. It was a very special win, providing trainer and fellow Godolphin Flying Start classmate Dan Blacker with his first stakes winner. Read more here.

An abundance of talent for the future.

Westerdale is a hugely exciting American prospect, demonstrating his enormous talent when blitzing the field in his New York debut to win by 14 ¾ lengths. In training with another fellow Godolphin Flying Start classmate Tom Morley, he was a $150,000 purchase at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select sale in 2016.

Back in Australia, Fastnet Rock filly Petrelle was the talk of the town after her 3 length debut win (pictured, right). The Archie Alexander trained Magic Millions Gold Coast purchase is one to keep a close eye on this season.

Matt Cumani with Anthemoessa

Matt Cumani had a great season with 50 wins and looks poised to add to it this season with a talented lineup including fillies Anthemoessa and Antilla, and smart Nicconi colt Akkadian. As a 2-year-old Akkadian finished third in the Group 2 VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes by just a length to Not a Single Cent after running in stakes company most of the year.

Speedy galloper Disruptive figured out the game quickly last season, breaking his maiden in his first start of the preparation. He added three consecutive victories to his record from March to June, for a combined margin of 9 ½ lengths. With a season of experience under his belt, the $80,000 purchase is another one to watch in the stable of Lindsey Smith this season.

In December, Boomer purchase Fille de Charlie (pictured below) made history for Domain Thoroughbreds as their first city winner when she scored at Moonee Valley. She was a $40,000 purchase at the 2016 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.

Breeding clients also hit goals in the sale ring.

Daandine Stud sold a beautiful yearling colt by I Am Invincible from broodmare purchase Ready to Rule for $500,000, another great result for the successful breeders of Capitalist.

I Am Invincible x Danish Spy colt

Austin Miller partnered with Yarraman Park to breed and sell the stunning colt by I Am Invincible from Danish Spy for $750,000.

With 18 mares purchased between the Inglis & Magic Millions Broodmare sales, the upcoming breeding season will be an exciting one for clients such as Daandine Stud, Peter Murray, Tony Patrizi, Bill Andrews, Yarraman Park & Musk Creek as these first foals arrive.

An active sales season has assembled a strong team of horses to add to the success in 2018/19.

Teaming up with China Horse Club and John O’Shea at Inglis Easter, the $1.05-million I Am Invincible colt from multiple stakes winner Hoss Amor was a real standout type at the sale. The colt was one of six Easter purchases, with the Olympic Glory filly from Group 3 winner Let’s Make Adeal an exciting addition to the Lindsey Smith stable.

Magic Millions purchases were led by a $550,000 Pierro half-sister to stakes winning Outback Barbie. Two fillies beautifully bred fillies also left an impression; an I Am Invincible filly from a half-sister to multiple group stakes winner Hosannah, and an athletic Tapit half-sister to U.S. Group 1 winner Klimt.

Among the eight yearlings signed for at the Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, was a Spirit of Boom half-sister to Listed winning Flamenco. She was joined by another Spirit of Boom filly also heading to the Tony Gollan stable.

"I'm a proud Queenslander and we have been waiting a long time for a stallion like Spirit Of Boom. Both fillies look early types from running families and are from great nurseries in Eureka and Lyndhurst.” - Boomer, ANZ Bloodstock News

With horses such as Scales of Justice and Double Touch leading the way and a promising group of 3-year-olds heading towards the spring and 2-year-olds in pre-training, we look forward to another exciting season in 2018/2019.
